Motorola commercial picture
Posted: 31 August 2005 - From Yahoo!

As madonnalicious exclusively reported yesterday, Madonna was shooting a Motorola commercial in the UK.

This is an image released by MBC showing Madonna as she shrugs off her horse riding injury to return to work shooting a television commercial for Motorola on set at Shepperton Studios in west London, Wednesday Aug. 31, 2005. (AP Photo/ MBC, HO)

More exclusive Motorola commercial news
Posted: 31 August 2005

Now that filming for the Motorola commercial has finished at Shepperton Studios, just outside London, madonnalicious can bring you more exclusive news about the shoot:

This advert is to promote iTunes and the new Motorola Moto Rokr mobile phone.

Other stars featured in the advert are Little Richard, Bootsy Collins, Lil' John, The White Stripes, Sleater-Kinney, Sum 41, Mya, Pussycat Dolls, Billie Joe (from Green Day). Look-a-likes of Beethoven, Jimi Hendrix and Biggie Smalls are also featured.

To reprise the opening sequence:
Open on a phone booth in a village in the mountain desert of the Middle East. A teenager is talking on the phone with his girlfriend. He's speaking a foreign language; so what he's saying is subtitled.
Madonna walks up and into the phone booth. She puts her hand on his cheek and kisses the teenager.
Madonna asks the teenager 'Who's that girl?'
We then hear his girlfriend’s voice screaming through the receiver: 'Who's that girl?'
An instrumental version of Madonna's new single Hung Up then begins to play as other characters are introduced and squeezed into the phone booth.

First Beethoven and Hendrix join Madonna and the teenager in the booth, then the other stars arrive and pack into the booth with various difficulties. Just when we think no one else can fit in along comes Biggie Smalls....and the commercial cuts to Madonna's face being pressed against the glass as she yells 'Biggie....NOOOO!'

All the stars then disappear into the phone booth receiver which then changes into a Motorola Motr Rokr in the teenagers hand.

Documentary clip aired on MTV
Posted: 29 August 2005

A short clip from the tour documentary I'm Going To Tell You A Secret was aired during the MTV Video Music Awards pre-show yesterday. The clip showed Madonna performing Nobody Knows Me, the footage of which was filmed during the 04 and 05 September shows in Paris.

During the clip a message was scrolled along the bottom saying: Madonna DVD 'I'm Going To Tell You A Secret' Set for release this fall, this may suggest that the documentary will not make it to cinemas but will be released straight to DVD, maybe in a double-DVD set with the tour show DVD.

Confessions news from Madonna!
Posted: 29 August 2005

Madonna's official website www.madonna.com have published some more news about the new album, including the fact that the disc will have 12 tracks on it:

'I want people to jump out of their seats.' Never one to understate, those were the exact words Madonna used to describe the songs on her upcoming album, - 'Confessions On a Dance Floor'. The 12 delicious tunes of pure 'unapologetic dance music' including the single 'Hung Up' (out Oct.17th) is scheduled to be released on November 15th on Warner Bros. Records. This time out, the original Queen of Dance Music returns to where she began and kicks it up a few extra notches.
'It's in her blood' says Madonna's co-producer/partner in crime, DJ and Madonna musical director, Stuart Price. 'She has a dance halo over her head. We made this record without any preconceived notions. It was straight from the gut - unencumbered -not over edited - very spontaneous,' concluded Price.
If 'Confessions' were equated to a new dance step, it would a stunning blend of musical styles with one foot in the roots of early disco (a la Girogio Moroder/Abba on ecstacy) and the other foot gloriously ensconced in the future of music - a dance step that could only be accomplished by one artist.
'Confessions on a Dance Floor is all about having a good time straight through and non stop.' says America's ultimate Dancing Queen.

Confessions photoshoot required 12 sets
Posted: 29 August 2005 - From the New York Times

The foray into video began after Mr. Klein met Madonna in 2002 and agreed to photograph her for W. Those images became the genesis of X-STaTIC PRO=CeSS, an installation of combined images of video and still photography at Deitch Projects in SoHo in 2003.
Mr. Klein said he wanted to portray the singer not as a pop icon but as a performance artist. 'I presented her with objects and ideas that had been important in her career: the wedding dress, the strip pole, the yogi, the queen, the bed,' he said. He photographed Madonna on large elaborate sets while videotaping her for the Re-Invention tour videos. For the Deitch show, he said, 'I worked in a way where I introduced one element at a time.'
In one image, he used a still photograph of the singer lying on a small wooden table just to the left of a door, her left leg curled underneath her shoulder and around the back of her neck. To the right of the door was a poster of a kidney; Mr. Klein used computer animation to make the kidney pulsate. Then he overlaid the sound of gunshots. Black scuff marks on the door suggest violence.
'People are fixed either on still images or live action,' he said. 'I was interested in the space between the two,' he said.
This month Mr. Klein photographed and videotaped Madonna on 12 elaborate sets for the cover of her next album, 'Confessions on a Dance Floor.' But as much as the photographer appreciates an iconic face, he likes to play with what the notion of who the subject is and isn't.

All About Madonna?
Posted: 28 August 2005 - From Box Office Mojo - thanks to Dawn and Mate

Robert Luketic, film director of films including Legally Blonde and Monster-In-Law, talks in an interview with Box Office Mojo about his work and how female stars seem to be drawn to work with him. In the article he even talks about being summoned to Madonna's apartment:

'When I came to Hollywood, I was summoned to Madonna's apartment in New York City,' Luketic said, 'and she was talking about All About Eve, and how it's one of her favorite films. Now I've seen it and I own it—I bought one of the prints. It's about how youth is perceived and very little has changed in this youth obsessed culture—it's about the need for approval from others. There is so much going on in that movie. It requires some psychoanalysis. All About Eve is the only film I would remake.'

Queen of the Country
Posted: 27 August 2005 - From The Guardian By Patrick Barkham

She bought a £9m country estate, decked herself out in tweeds and declared her fondness for shooting pheasants, but Madonna's bid to be lady of the manor has been thwarted by a birdwatcher.
Bill Oddie, the former Goodie and presenter of the successful Springwatch BBC series has been voted the face of rural England by more than 2,200 visitors to the Town & Country festival's website.
Perhaps surprisingly given her run-ins with ramblers and relatively recent conversion to country life, Madonna took second place, ahead of housewives' favourite Alan Titchmarsh. Otis Ferry, best-known for storming the Commons to protest against the hunting ban, finished fourth.
The list has been compiled by the Town & Country festival, which will entertain 100,000 people this weekend with alpacas, country crafts, morris dancing, vintage cars and motorbike stunts at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire.
Helen Arnold of the festival said: 'A few years ago, we would never have guessed that Madonna would make it to second place in a survey like this. It seems she is the queen of reinvention.'

Evita revival rumour hits the press
Posted: 27 August 2005 - From IMDB.com - thanks to Fatima

With the news that the musical Evita will be revived in London's West End in the Spring of 2006, the press have of course been linking Madonna's name to the role:

London theatre bosses are touting Madonna to reprise her film role of Argentina's first lady Eva Peron in a new production of Evita.
The Material Girl fought off a host of Hollywood actresses to play the glamorous wife of corrupt Argentine president Juan Peron in the 1996 film.
Previous plans to resurrect the musical in the British capital collapsed in 2003 when its authors Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber decided the city was not in the mood for serious musicals.
However, now the same creative team, comprising of director Michael Grandage, choreographer Rob Ashford and designer Christopher Oram, are in discussions to launch Evita in the West End next year, and hope Madonna will step into Peron's expensive shoes.

At No. 2 in the list is the liver of Rolling Stones' Keith Richards, which is so durable, Spitz writes, that 'when Richards finally passes, they'll line the exterior of the space shuttle with his liver tissue.'
REM singer Michael Stipe's oft-shaved skull comes in third, because he has a hairline that's 'not too high like Moby's or too low' like Sinead O'Connor's.

Madonna challenged me to a drinking contest
Posted: 21 August 2005

Today's edition of UK newspaper the Sunday Mirror featured an interview with DJ Jo Whiley in it's magazine supplement. Here is an extract from the article where she talks about Madonna:

She's on such good terms with her Madgesty that the singer asked Jo to present her award when she was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame.
'I introduced her as 'the sort of woman who could drink you under the table', and she said to me later, 'I'll do that sometime,' laughs Jo.
'Before I met her, I thought she was going to be so scary, but she's really not. I'm sure she has an iron will and makes sure things go her way, but she's also sweet and charming, and quite small and frail-looking. She told me about being in love with Guy and what he means to her. She changes when she talks about him or the kids, she softens up. I like her a lot.'

UK Press: After the fall
Posted: 21 August 2005

Here is the first picture of Madonna after her riding accident on Tuesday, she was pictured at the London Kabbalah Centre yesterday - this picture was featured on the front cover of The Sunday Times.

From the Sunday Mirror Exclusive by Stewart Maclean:

Smiling through the pain with her arm in a sling, Madonna yesterday made her first appearance since her horrific horse fall.
The singer - wearing a tracksuit and baseball cap - was determined to show the world she is back on her feet after breaking three ribs, her hand and collarbone last week.
She put on a brave face as she left the Kabbalah Centre, base of the religious sect to which she belongs, in Central London with husband Guy Ritchie at 1.30pm. A waiting fan said: 'It’s not like Madge to sulk around in bed. She’s now acquired that country-girl stiff upper lip and went out of her way to act as though nothing had happened.'
Meanwhile the horse which threw her was in hiding last night - after Madonna had sent an SOS from her hospital bed to save it.
The Queen of Pop, thrown by the thoroughbred bay mare during her 47th birthday celebrations on Tuesday, was so worried the incident would give the animal a bad reputation she ordered neighbours to rush it into hiding away from her Wiltshire estate.
Una Harley, who lives next to Madonna’s £9million country pile said: 'She knows the horse was not to blame for what happened to her. It was an accident, pure and simple. It can be terrible when a horse gets an ill-deserved reputation for being trouble - so she sent a message that nobody was to reveal its name.'
'The people who own it got it scurried away into stables and everyone in our community knows never to tell anyone what it was called.'
Una, 66, who runs a stables in the village, added: 'It’s delightful she has shown such concern for the poor horse, and it shows what a lovely person she is.'
'Animals like these can be worth up to £500,000 - and although there may be some value in being the horse that Madonna fell off, if it got a reputation for being a danger its value could plummet.'

Madonna: Take your hands off my pants
Posted: 21 August 2005 - From The Sunday Times

A lingerie company figleaves.com are launching a range of underwear called Madonna Nudes 1979 which feature Madonna's image on some items.
Milan designer Rosanna Ansaloni has based the lingerie on naked pictures of Madonna taken by the American photographer Martin Schreiber in 1979.

Liz Rosenberg has said: This lingerie is misleading the public because Madonna is in no way affiliated with it. Her attorneys are starting to gather information now because a line of lingerie is implying that Madonna is associated with it, and that could not be further from the truth.'

Madonna Vs Gwyneth Vs Renee

Madonna: I'm grateful and overwhelmed
Posted: 20 August 2005 - From the Daily Mirror

Crocked Madonna last night vowed to carry on horse-riding - despite her horror fall this week. She is recovering after breaking a collarbone, hand and three ribs in an accident that has left husband Guy Ritchie in anguish.
But the pop queen, 47, insiste: 'As soon as the doctors give me the OK, I expect to be right back on a horse and ride again.' She also thanked fans who had sent messages of support and said: 'I'm grateful and overwhelmed by everyone's good wishes.'
Novice rider Madonna tumbled on her Ashcombe House estate near Tollard Royal, Wilts, on Tuesday. She was on a riding outing that was a birthday gift from Guy, who is said to be 'absolutely mortified' by the mishap and has been helping her recover. A friend said: 'He's giving her lots of TLC.'

Liz Rosenberg has also dismissed tabloid reports that Madonna and Guy had a furious row about her wanting to ride again.

Madonna in great spirits as she recovers
Posted: 17 August 2005 - From People.com By KC Baker and Stephen M. Silverman

Madonna is 'in great spirits' Wednesday after breaking several bones during a horse-riding accident the previous day, her rep tells PEOPLE.
'Madonna is doing great. She's up and in great spirits. She's not feeling that bad. She's getting around,' her publicist Liz Rosenberg says.
On Tuesday – the singer's on her 47th birthday – she cracked three ribs and broke her collarbone and her hand. The injuries occurred during a horse-riding accident at Ashcombe, the entertainer's country estate outside London.
Madonna and an assistant were riding, when the singer, on a new horse she wasn't accustomed to, took a tumble. Her children, Rocco, 5, and Lourdes, 8, were at the home but were not with their mother at the time, Rosenberg said, adding: 'The whole family was out in the country, celebrating her birthday.'
Madonna's husband, film director Guy Ritchie, took Madonna to an undisclosed hospital, where she was treated and released later that evening.
Madonna reportedly started riding in late spring and is still categorized as a novice.
She has a dance CD due for release this November. It's not anticipated that the spill will prevent her from promoting it, said Rosenberg, who told PEOPLE: 'I'm sure she'll be very restless. She's usually doing lots of things at once.'
So will she get back on the horse and ride again? 'Knowing her, she'll be riding next week,' says Rosenberg. 'She is a fearless girl.'

Madonna recovering at home
Posted: 17 August 2005 - From Reuters Via Yahoo News!

Madonna is now recovering at home after her accident yesterday, and in a conflicting statement to what Liz Rosenberg said yesterday, her UK publicist says she does not think the promotion or launch of the new album will be affected:

Pop star Madonna was recovering at home on Wednesday after suffering several broken bones in a riding accident at her English country estate, her spokeswoman said.
The singer cracked three ribs and broke her collar bone and a hand when she fell off her horse on Tuesday at Ashcombe House, where she had been celebrating her 47th birthday with husband Guy Ritchie and two children Lourdes and Rocco.
'She is recovering at home,' spokeswoman Barbara Charone said.
Madonna's New York publicist said the American artist, famous around the world for hits including 'Material Girl' and 'Like a Virgin,' was riding a new horse at the time of the fall. She was treated at a local hospital in Salisbury, a city about 90 miles southwest of London, and later discharged.
Madonna is due to release a new album 'Confessions on a Dancefloor' in November. Charone said she did not expect Madonna's injuries to affect the launch or promotion of the record. 'As far as I know, nothing's been affected,' Charone said.
Medical experts said it would take up to eight weeks for Madonna to recover from her injuries.
'These are incredibly common injuries for people who fall off horses,' said Professor Chris Moran of the Queen's Medical Center in Nottingham.
'Rib fractures are very painful but usually heal very quickly. The pain goes in four to six weeks.'
He added that Madonna may need to undergo physiotherapy to get full movement back in her hand, and could have a wait of up to eight weeks for her collar bone to heal. 'But generally people who are fit and well-motivated will do well.'

Madonna's arrival at hospital
Posted: 17 August 2005 - From contactmusic.com

'Sources' at the hospital Madonna was treated at yesterday have been speaking to the press about Madonna's arrival:

Madonna was rushed to Salisbury District Hospital where staff were shocked to see her in such severe pain, she was visibly shaken.
A hospital source says, 'Madonna's voice was shaking when she gave her name. She was wearing her riding gear and trembling.'
'She was obviously in a lot of pain, but she was lucid. Guy Ricthie arrived about ten minutes later looking very worried.'
Madonna was immediately given a private room where she was treated by a fracture specialist.

How accident may affect new album and tour
Posted: 17 August 2005 - From contactmusic.com

Liz Rosenberg has spoken about how Madonna's accident will affect the new album promotion and summer tour next year:

Her new disc is due this November and she is set to tour next summer. It's too soon to tell if the tour will be affected, but the press for the disc will definitely be affected.

Madonna discharged from hospital
Posted: 16 August 2005 - From Associated Press

US pop diva Madonna was discharged from hospital where she had been treated for injuries suffered in a horse riding accident in southwest England, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The singer had been taken to Salisbury District Hospital in Wiltshire after falling off her horse while celebrating her 47th birthday.
Madonna's spokeswoman, Barbara Charone, earlier said the songstress had broken her collar bone and a hand, and cracked three ribs, but her condition was not serious.
One orthopaedic surgeon, Leela Biant, said Madonna's fitness would help her to make a full recovery, noting that this should take about three months.
'You don't treat broken ribs, they heal by themselves,' Biant said.
'The fact that Madonna is very fit and healthy will help her recovery and because she does a lot of yoga she will be used to deep breathing,' she told Britain's domestic Press Association.
Biant said, however, that the Material Girl would find it painful to sing during the first couple of weeks.

Madonna breaks bones in horse riding accident
Posted: 16 August 2005 - From Associated Press

Madonna's 47th birthday celebration was marred when she suffered several broken bones in a horse riding accident at her country home outside London, her publicist told The Associated Press on Tuesday.
The superstar was hospitalized with three cracked ribs, a broken collarbone and a broken hand, according to Liz Rosenberg, her spokeswoman based in New York.
The accident occurred Tuesday at Ashcombe house, her estate outside of London.
Madonna and an assistant were riding horses, when Madonna, on a new horse she wasn't accustomed to riding, took a tumble. Her children, Rocco and Lourdes, were at the home but were not with their mother at the time, Rosenberg said.
'The whole family was out in the country, celebrating her birthday,' Rosenberg said. Her husband, director Guy Ritchie, took Madonna to an undisclosed hospital, where she was treated. Rosenberg said the entertainer was expected to be released later in the evening.

It's an uptempo, synth-disco jam song
Posted: 14 August 2005 - Thanks to Aaron

The latest issue of Roling Stone features this small snippet on Madonna's new single Hung Up and on how producer Stuart Price has tried it out on unknowing club-goers!

Here is more from the Rolling Stone article by Andy Greene:

Price met Madonna later in her career, playing keyboards on her last two tours - 'I was a bit too young to be a fan in the Eighties,' he says, laughing. She approached him after last year's Re-Invention Tour, when she began work on a music-driven screenplay, bringing him onboard to create a sound she called 'future disco.' The idea for Confessions came from those sessions.
'We live real near each other in London, and we could just send ideas back and forth and get together and work on stuff,' Price says. 'The creative process was very short. There were a couple of weeks in London at my studio where we were doing a song every day.'
Price insists that he and Madonna did not blindly trust the club scene, wanting to create something more lasting. 'There's a bit of a danger with dance music that you can create something that's cool but doesn't have much substance to it,' he admits. 'Every few months, a club record comes along that hits a nerve with people, and they connect to it. They don't know why, but there is something magical in it. That's what we were trying to make.'

Another rumour on another collaboration
Posted: 10 August 2005 - From contactmusic.com

UK tabloid newspaper The Sun published a rumour today that Madonna was working with Outkast star Andre 3000 on her new album:

Madonna has enlisted the talents of Andre 3000 on her new album, after meeting the Outkast star on the set of her husband Guy Ritchie's forthcoming movie Revolver.
Material Girl Madonna is set to unleash her latest record, Confessions On A Dancefloor, in November.
The album will contain a collaborative track that she has been working on with Andre 3000, real name Andre Benjamin.
Andre says, 'Madonna showed up on the set of Revolver and made me really nervous. She walked around the corner and I forgot all my lines.'
'She asked me what I thought about music and where it was going. Then we talked about something on her new album.'

But fans should remember what Liz Rosenberg herself said when denying the rumours of a collaboration with Christina Agulera and Gwen Stefani on the new album....It’s all Madonna, all the time!

Top 10 Film Fashion Moments
Posted: 08 August 2005 - Thanks to Jeff

MSN.com have produced a list of the Top 10 Film Fashion Moments - Madonna in the 1985 film Desperately Seeking Susan comes in at number 8:

Every woman had thought about it: Why can't I wear this bra in public? I wear a bikini to the beach. OK, well not every woman, but it was one Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone who made the thought a reality and much more mainstream than worried fathers would have liked.
As the downtown urchin Susan in Susan Seidelman's modern screwball comedy, 'Desperately Seeking Susan,' Madonna wore her clothes - from black dresses paired with leggings to men's pants with exposed lacy bras to rolled-down, rhinestone boots to even men's boxers. And, of course, beads, crosses, bracelets and all that obvious bleached-out hair.
Madonna was so ultra-sexy and daring, it's not even necessary to point out what a sensation she became, since an entire phrase was coined for her legions of imitators: 'Madonna-wanna-be.'

Sharleen Spiteri: I like Madonna's style
Posted: 05 August 2005 - From contactmusic.com

Texas frontwoman Sharleen Spiteri is impressed by Madonna's directness when she wants to get to know somebody, because she simply phones them.
The Ray Of Light superstar hates relying on celebrity parties to meet new pals - she prefers to invite stars she has admired from afar to an evening of fine cuisine and conversation, and Spiteri was on her list.
Spiteri recalls, 'Madonna just rang up and said, 'Do you want to come to dinner?' and it was either a yes or a no and I said, 'Yes.'
'That's just an easier way for her to meet people she thinks she might want to meet because there is always such a fuss around her when she is in a public place.'
'I enjoy her company, her conversation. She's lovely.'

Confessions of the WBR executives
Posted: 04 August 2005

In today's New York Post gossip columnist Liz Smith continues building up the hype surrounding Madonna's new album:

Who are the happiest music executives in the land these days? The big guys at Warner Records. All who have heard Madonna's coming CD, 'Confessions on a Dance Floor,' have been blown away. (Including WR's movie-star handsome CEO Tom Whalley.) 'Confessions' is entirely a dance-driven pop disc. No message. No ballads. All fun. These days M seems serene as the chatelaine of an English manor, feeding the chickens, riding, tending to her children, etc. (She, her home and her kids are gorgeous in Vogue for August.)
But the once-shocking icon can still get into the groove. And she wants her fans to know it. The album hits stores in November.

I always wanted to make clothes for Madonna
Posted: 02 August 2005 - From vogue.co.uk

Madonna might have climbed into John Galliano and Alexander McQueen dresses and Louis Vuitton suits to appear in the current issue of US Vogue, but there is one London-based designer who is really celebrating the article. 'I dreamed of Madonna wearing my clothes ever since I was a little girl,' says Brazilian Daniella Issa Helayel, who designed the flying duck-printed blouse that Madge wore to be interviewed by Hamish Bowles. 'Even before I became a designer, I always wanted to make clothes for Madonna.'
With Issa dresses spreading like wild fire through A-list wardrobes (Keira Knightley, the Minogue sisters and Paris Hilton are all fans, Camilla Al Fayed is Daniella's new muse and Sharon Stone has apparently acquired no less than eight dresses for her forthcoming Basic Instinct 2 publicity tour), Daniella has been working on a line of bags and shoes to accessorise them. And after piling the fashion crowd into Annabel's last season, she's planning one of London Fashion Week's biggest dos at the hip new Dover Street venue, Automat, in September.
