M by Madonna: A modern twist on feminine classics
Posted: 27 February 2007 - From H&M Press Release

The creative collaboration between Madonna and H&M continues with the arrival of the 'M by Madonna' fashion collection which will be available at all H&M’s stores selling women’s wear within all markets in mid-March. Margareta van den Bosch, H&M's head of design and Madonna have joined together to create a line of clothing that reflects Madonna's fashion sensibilities, modern elegance and femininity.
'Madonna has an impressive feel for fashion and trends. She is a total professional, inspiring and enthusiastic. She was involved in even the smallest details of every design. The result is 'M by Madonna' which is all about fashion that people can really love and wear season after season,' stated van den Bosch.
The unique yet classic 'M by Madonna' line includes glamorous tops, street-cool lumber jackets, tailored blazers and other apparel including shirt dresses and kimono-shaped dresses. A Madonna favourite is a stylish trench-coat in cotton poplin or leather. 'M by Madonna' is primarily in neutral palettes including white, black, khaki and grey. Fabrics vary from silk, wool, viscose jersey and body-sculpting lycra.
The entire line is embellished with a small 'M' logo on linings, zippers and buttons. In addition the 'M by Madonna' look includes a complete line of accessories from sunglasses, party bags and clutches and even skinny leather belts.
This dream collaboration of music and fashion between these two giants began last spring when H&M supplied a complete line of off-stage clothing for Madonna's entire touring troupe including band, dancers, crew members and the Material girl herself. Madonna and H&M's first collaboration at that time was a specially designed Madonna track suit which was sold at H&M stores world wide.
Founded in Sweden in 1947, H&M which has today over 1,300 stores in Europe, North America, Middle East and soon also in Eastern Asia, is synonymous around the world with fashion and quality at the best price. The company’s collections are created by their own designers. The ‘M by Madonna’ collection will be sold in 28 countries around the world.
Madonna, a multi-Grammy award winning artist, children's book author, fashion icon and visionary is a cultural innovator of astonishing diversity and enduring appeal. Her most recent CD Confessions on a Dance Floor debuted at No. 1 in 29 countries. Her Confessions Tour was the most successful tour ever by a female artist. 'The Confessions Tour - Live From London' dvd/cd has just been released.

More on the Timbaland collaboration
Posted: 27 February 2007 - Thanks to Brian

Timbaland has again commented on the possibility of working with Madonna in this article from Monsters and Critics:

Producer Timbaland told Billboard in a 2001 interview that he`d never make a solo album as an artist. But that`s exactly what will arrive March 27 in the form of 'Shock Value,' which, as previously reported, features such high-profile collaborators as Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado, Elton John and Fall Out Boy.
'I had some of this album in mind before I hit with Justin and Nelly,' he tells Billboard. 'But Justin solidified it for me. He said I needed to do something for myself. I`ve never been this anticipated in my whole life when it comes to my own record. It`s like a Jay-Z, Kanye West or Young Jeezy. But I`d really rather people like me as an entertainer versus an artist. I just like to entertain.'
Timbaland describes 'Shock Value' as 'taking you through different emotions. It flows like a movie with different parts: horror, comedy and drama. My mission is to blow up boundaries, taking my music outside the box. It will shock the system.'
Before roaring back to the top of the charts in 2006, Timbaland admits he was embittered by a period of time when the industry was indifferent to his ever-evolving sound. 'I knew I wanted to do something different musically,' he says. 'I got criticized for that. Labels wouldn`t give me a shot. They were saying, 'He`s lost it; he`s over.' That`s why I`m talking so cocky now. I got tired of people smiling in my face and then talking behind my back.'
Next up on Timbaland`s production docket are 'Eve, M.I.A., Chris Brown, 50 Cent, Missy Elliott and Madonna,' he says. 'Missy and I still talk. She`s like a sister to me and I`m with her till death do us part. I haven`t gone into the studio yet with Madonna. I need to call someone now to talk about that further.'

Daily Pilates and glass of red keep Madge fit
Posted: 27 February 2007 - Thanks to DJDannyEchi

UK newspaper the Daily Mail previews the interview that is featured in the new issue of Elle magazine (out tomorrow) - of which Madonna is the cover star as revealed by madonnalicious a few days ago:

She has just completed a gruelling world tour, has three young children to care for and is not far off 50.
Yet Madonna has revealed an exercise regime that would make a younger woman blanch.
She spends six mornings a week completing a mix of workouts and cardiovascular exercises. 'I mix it up - Pilates, gyrotonics, yoga,' says the singer, 48.
'I do it six days a week, with Sundays off. Actually, Sunday is a day of horse-riding. There’s no such thing as a day off.'
Despite her regime, she still has 'fat days' when she worries about her weight.
She tells Elle magazine: 'I run longer on the treadmill and don’t eat as much the next day, so then it evens out, but I’m sure it’s all in my head.'
Madonna admits to one vice: fine wine.
'I’ve had a few wine-tasting sessions and a brief education,' she says.
'I’m particularly fond of red wine - I like Bordeaux.'
The star, mother to Lourdes, 10, Rocco, six, and David, 17 months, says when work and home life clash it upsets her.
'I get stressed if there are too many projects going on at the same time and I feel overwhelmed if I’m trying to meet too many deadlines and spend time with my family,' she says.
'I scream a lot. Sometimes I handle it well, sometimes I don’t. Sometimes it’s nice to go run really fast on a treadmill for half an hour and get out all of my aggression.'
'I’m blessed and grateful that I have the family I have. I am happy.'
She has just designed a collection for high street chain H & M, which goes on sale on 22 March, and says: 'I’ve tried to make a very chic line that’s relatively inexpensive. I try my own designs out on my husband.'
'My daughter is going through a phase of wearing jeans so tight she can’t bend her knees in them.'
'I have a go at her and say, ‘Can’t you wear something else? You have a closet full of clothes and you wear the same pants every day.'
'And please wear a belt because I don’t want to see your butt crack when you bend over'.

Shanghai Surprise: Special Edition 'Fans Unite'
Posted: 25 February 2007

Back in December 2006 madonnalicious was contacted by a production company who were producing a special edition DVD re-release of Shanghai Surprise.

They wanted fans to provide a film commentary Fans Unite - talking about why they loved the film and their memories of it and Madonna.

Lots of fans read the advert and wanted to take part and eventually five were chosen to participate - here is Anthony's story:

Hi! My name is Anthony. I was one of the five people on the Fans Unite commentary for the Shanghai Surprise special edition coming out Tuesday 10 April 2007. The whole adventure was very exciting!
We were all asked to write a one hundred word essay on why we think we should be picked. Five of us got the chance.
We met up in the studio early in the morning of Tuesday 19 December 2006. The studio was awesome! It was a studio where people pay thousands of dollars an hour to record in. The place was so nice and decked out! A lounge with fully stocked refrigerators with drinks and food. The people were really nice.
The other five were super awesome fans of the movie and of Madonna. We basically all agreed on how much we enjoyed the movie and why. I think it will put an extra light on the movie. It includes a lot of Madonna talk that fans will love!
We sat in these big tall luxurious chairs with microphones in front of us. Three movie screens playing the movie were in front of us, in front of a recording studio window, where behind that recording engineers recorded us. It was a lot of fun! We were like friends all commenting and having a really good time. It will be a fantastic memory to have for a lifetime!
And oh yes, all five of us had replied to the madonnalicious ad asking for volunteers. Thanks madonnalicious! Dreams do come true!

Madonna Says She Wants to Be Like Gandhi
Posted: 16 February 2007 - From People.com By Stephen M. Silverman - thanks to Jeanette

Madonna has in the past styled herself after Marilyn Monroe and Eva Perón, but they're not the ones she hopes to emulate.
'I want to be like Gandhi and Martin Luther King and John Lennon, but I want to stay alive,' the singer said during a Valentine's Day interview on Sirius Satellite Radio.
In fact, Madonna, 48, who angered church leaders with a controversial crucifixion scene on her most recent tour, has some even bigger spiritual shoes to fill. 'For me we all need to be Jesus in our time,' she says.
Defending the scene, which featured video images of AIDS orphans in Africa, she says: 'Jesus's message was to love your neighbor as yourself, and these are people in need. I hope that people got that message.'
'Of course some people thought Oh, she's just being controversial, she's just getting on a cross and trying to piss people off, but that wasn't my intention at all.'
In the interview, which will be rebroadcast Saturday at 1 p.m. ET on Sirius's new OutQ/channel 109 station, she also talks about her connection to her gay fans: 'Gay men are perfect men for girls who are tough. They're not threatened by strong women, and they're usually very in touch with their feelings and pay attention to details. I've always had an affinity with gay men.'

Madonna becomes H&M's Material Girl
Posted: 12 February 2007 - From thisislondon.co.uk

She has been known as the Material Girl for years. Now Madonna has really become one by launching a fashion line for high street giant H&M.
The singer has worked closely with the company's design chief Margareta van den Bosch to create a range of clothes and accessories called M by Madonna.
Madonna, 48, said: 'I've made no secret of my love of fashion. Working with H&M was an exciting and new creative challenge. I'm happy with the results and look forward to wearing M by Madonna along with the rest of the world.'
The collection - described as 'reflecting Madonna's timeless, unique and always glamorous style' - goes into stores in 28 countries, including the UK, next month.
It includes lumber jackets, blazers, kimono dresses, handbags and sunglasses, mainly in white, black, khaki and grey. A Madonna favourite is a stylish trenchcoat in cotton poplin and leather. Prices will range from £7.99 to £149.99.
Madonna, who is also modelling the collection for H&M's advertising campaign, apparently displayed considerable talent as a designer.
'Madonna has an impressive feel for fashion and trends,' said Ms van den Bosch.
'She was extraordinarily style conscious, passionate and involved in even the smallest details.'
The collaboration began last spring when H&M supplied a complete line of off-stage clothing for Madonna's touring company, which led to the 'Madonna tracksuit' being sold in stores.
H&M's previous collaborations, with designers Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney and Viktor& Rolf, caused stampedes in its branches when the clothes went on sale.

This article also included a new picture (see above) shot by Steven Klein for H&M.

Madonna for Live Earth?
Posted: 12 February 2007

Madonna's name was briefly mentioned in a published report by UK newspaper the Daily Star On Sunday about the global-warming awareness concert Live Earth that is scheduled to take place on Saturday 07 July and be bigger than Live 8.

Famous names mentioned include Madonna, Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue, Prince, The Rolling Stones, Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2, Coldplay and Oasis.
The acts in question will play to an audience of more than 2 billion people in a bid to raise awareness of and halt global warming. The mammoth concert is the brainchild of caring former American Vice-President Al Gore.
Al held a top secret meeting with all the big names in the music industry in London on Friday night. He said: 'Power lies more in pop and hip hop than the American Congress. The only way to breathe meaning back into our words is through music. We need you.'

Remember this is just an early report and although Madonna's name has been mentioned it does not mean she is confirmed for the concert yet....but fingers crossed!

Timbaland Still 'Shocked' At Working With Madonna
Posted: 11 February 2007 - From FMQB - thanks to Brian

Timbaland has already revealed that his new album, Timbaland Presents Shock Value, is set for release on March 27, and that he collaborated with the likes of Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, Elton John, Fall Out Boy, She Wants Revenge and The Hives. But even though he's been producing records for 15 years, he still can't believe the caliber of artists that want to work with him.
'I reached out to Madonna, and she was already trying to find me,' Timbaland told MTV News. 'I'm like, 'She was? Hmm.' It's funny. People will reach out to me, and I guess I beat them to the punch sometimes. It's crazy to see how many people want to work with me. I'm still in shock.'
Although it doesn't look like any cuts from Madonna will be on Tim's album.

More on M by Madonna
Posted: 10 February 2007 - From Telegraph.co.uk - thanks to Mo

Here are some more news on the M by Madonna range that hits H&M next month:

Madonna - the world's highest earning female performer, worth an estimated £165 million - still has time for a few little jobs on the side.
Working closely with the Swedish fashion chain H&M, she has helped to create a high street collection closely based on her own glamorous wardrobe staples.
The range, M by Madonna, goes on sale next month and includes chic belted trench coats, an elegant black jersey maxi dress, a fitted, 1970s-inspired bomber jacket - one of Madonna's signature looks in recent years - and skinny black trousers.
This is Madonna's second collaboration with H&M. Her first, a track-suit that went on sale last summer amid much publicity, was regarded by many as a flop.
The 48-year-old singer has worked with fashion designers from Jean Paul Gaultier to Stella McCartney during her career and ignited more style trends than any other performer.

Madonna portrait fleshes out art auction
Posted: 01 February 2007 - From Scotsman.com

A controversial nude portrait of pop icon Madonna is to be auctioned in the Capital (Edinburgh, Scotland) this weekend.
The portrait is part of a collection of works dedicated to the world-famous star by one of Scotland's best-known artists, Peter Howson.
Mr Howson, who was brought up in Ayrshire, said the portraits were designed to show Madonna as a powerful and charismatic person while also touching on her religious upbringing.
The singer - who has also posed fully clothed for Howson - is one of several famous fans of the artist's work.
The signed pastel of Madonna will go on sale at the Shapes fine art and antiques auction in Bankhead Avenue on Saturday with an estimated price tag of between £1500 and £2000.
Paul Howard, who runs the auction department, said: 'It's quite dramatic and certainly a striking image.'
Mr Howson, who has also painted the Queen and football star Henrik Larsson, currently has an exhibition of more than 100 works depicting Saint Andrew's life and death at the City Art Centre on Market Street.
He shot to fame in the mid-1980s, and became the official British war artist in Bosnia.

Madonna's Sanskrit shlokas teacher speaks
Posted: 01 February 2007 - From The Telegraph - Calcutta

Better known as Vagish Shastri, Bhagirath Prasad Tripathi had helped the pop star with her Sanskrit pronunciation back in 1998. Madonna’s recital of Sanskrit shlokas for her album Ray of Light was less than perfect. So she got in touch with Shastri, who runs the Kundalani Yoga Peeth in Varanasi, and took lessons over the phone.
It took her two days to get the pronunciation right, says Shastri.
Students living abroad are taught shlokas through video-conferencing, much like Madonna was taught through tele-conference.
Shastri claims that the pop star was eager to visit India but could not because she was pregnant. But she made necessary pronunciation corrections in her album, where she had recited shlokas from the opening hymn of Yoga Taravali, which summarises the highest teachings of yoga.
