New album out late this year!
Posted: 28 June 2007

Columnist Liz Smith wrote this short piece in Variety today confirming the arrival of Madonna's new album late this year:

Justin Timberlake is no. 68 on Entertainment Weekly's Top 100 list of 'The Stars We Love Right Now.' (Very clever of EW, that 'right now' bit. Never before has popularity shifted so swiftly and seismically as it does today.) Justin is busy collaborating with Madonna for her next album, which arrives late this year.

'Seven bottles of champagne and a ton of beer'
Posted: 27 June 2007

Here is some gossip from Richard Johnson's Page Six gossip column in todays edition of the New York Post about Madonna's night out in New York:

Is there a beef between Madonna and Janet Jackson? Madge was chummy with fellow singer Shakira at Butter Monday night (our spy said they showed up 'hand in hand') and was spotted dancing on banquettes with Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher and Penelope Cruz. But Jackson was holed up a few booths down and, 'She was not invited to join Madonna's crew,' said an onlooker, who told us the table drank 'seven bottles of champagne and a ton of beer.'

Madonna's dad puts her on a new label
Posted: 26 June 2007 - From Detroit News Online / Alex Piazza / Associated Press - thanks to Jenny

Madonna is most notably recognized through a pair of headphones.
But now the Bay City native also can be identified through a wine glass.
The Material Girl's father, Tony Ciccone, recently decided to advance his winery business by releasing Madonna Wine, which is available in five varieties: Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir, Gewurztraminer, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay.
'Most of our wines are state-bottled wines,' Ciccone said. 'We don't try to make California wines or wines from France. We make wines that are Michigan wines.'
Ciccone, who has been bottling wine out of his Ciccone Vineyard & Winery in Suttons Bay for nine years, is a regular visitor to Bay City. And when he's not seeing friends and family, he ventures over to the Water Front Market to visit owner Greg Schultz.
Ciccone has been delivering wine to Schultz's business for three years. On a recent visit, he dropped off a few bottles of Madonna Wine, which Schultz showcased on the front counter.
'Sales have been pretty good, considering it's a $40 bottle of wine,' Schultz said.
Many local residents recognize Ciccone not as 'the father of Madonna' but as 'Tony The Wine Distributor.' But some customers aren't buying the wine for its taste; they're purchasing complete sets to keep as collector's items.
'We've had a lot of girls who buy it as a gift for their friends,' Schultz said. 'It's good for true Madonna fans.'
When Marilyn Wines were released a while back, fans of Marilyn Monroe saved the bottles, and it's paying off for them, he said.
Madonna Wine was released in December 2006, Ciccone said, and its popularity has increased ever since. The label on each bottle features a colorful picture of Madonna, with whom he consulted beforehand to make sure his daughter approved of the idea.
'She was excited about it,' Ciccone said.
Ciccone said he plans to increase production at his Suttons Bay vineyard, which employs five people in Lower Michigan's Leelanau Peninsula.
But sales aside, Ciccone said he is just happy to be doing what he loves, and making money at the same time. 'I should've done this 20 years ago,' he said. 'For us, it's a labor of love.'

The BBC needs a 'Madonna Expert'
Posted: 25 June 2007

Paraic O'Brien, a reporter from the BBC has contacted madonnalicious asking for help, to produce an item on Madonna's carbon footprint. We have been ensured that this will not be a silly Madonna-baiting report, as Madonna is a successful global brand and even she cannot cycle from gig to gig!

The news report aims to proper carbon footprint audit. The deadline for this news report is Wednesday and is for BBC London News.

My name is Paraic, I'm a reporter with BBC TV. I'm doing a piece for TV about Madonna and the environment. I'm looking for the UK's most authorative 'Madonna expert' - who has chapter and verse when it comes to how many cars she has, flights she makes, support staff she brings with her, all the nitty gritty.

First, I need the information and second I need the person to do a short interview on camera. Any takers? Email me please - paraic.obrien@bbc.co.uk

....but before then, he is continuing a new-found collaboration with queen of pop Madonna.
The exiting pairing has already produced five songs - a couple of R'n'B numbers and a couple of dance records.
Justin said: 'Some of the dance stuff hasn't the in-your-face energy of Hung Up but it's got this mellow R'n'B thing on top of dance accompaniment which Timbaland is doing the beats for.'
'It's all still in demo phases and I don't know if it'll be an album but four or five songs will make really good records.'

Ellen Pompeo: Madonna allowed me to grieve
Posted: 19 June 2007

Grey's Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo was interviewed on Channel 4's The Richard and Judy Show this afternoon, in the interview she talked about how her mother had died when Ellen was four years old, and how Madonna helped her understand:

I come from an Irish Italian background and death was not talked about, or discussed, it was as if my mother had never existed.
I was never allowed to grieve, and as a teenager I didn't understand what had happened.
Around this time Madonna was just emerging on the world stage and I saw her sing and talk about the death of her own mother, and that it was okay to grieve and talk about loss.
Because I saw Madonna talk and sing about it, I saw it was okay to grieve and understand what happened.

#1 Oprah Winfrey
#2 Tiger Woods
#3 Madonna

#3 Madonna
Madonna crisscrossed the globe last year for her tour, Confessions, which drew over 1 million fans and grossed $194 million, making it the top-earning tour by a female artist in history. NBC cut the material girl a hefty check to broadcast the Confessions tour live last November, though ratings proved disappointing. In March, the always-fashion-forward singer linked up with retailer H&M for her own clothing line, M. (Rhinestones a-plenty, no cone bras.) Generated a maelstrom of negative publicity last year for her adoption of a baby in Malawi.

Madonna is praised by the fickle Mr Grant
Posted: 11 June 2007

The Mandrake column by Tim Walker in The Sunday Telegraph featured this small piece about actor Richard E Grant and his experiences with Madonna:

As oleaginous off screen as he is on it, Richard E Grant has been heaping praise lately on Madonna who has given him a part in Filth and Wisdom, the film which she is currently directing.
'She is somebody who is so determined to stretch in every direction and I really admire that,' the star of Withnail and I simpers. 'Believe me, the number of directors that I have worked with who don't have half her ability makes me believe she has a real talent.'
Mandrake wonders if this could possibly be the same Richard E Grant who cheerfully retailed tittle-tattle in his 1996 memoirs about the singer's 'embarassing' behind-the-scenes rows with her then boyfriend Tony Ward, how she swore like a trooper, looked over his shoulder while she talked to him and made him 'feel like a wretched five-year-old'.
The actor even felt at one point that Madonna warranted a 'quick call to the Capone School of St Valentine's Day Messages' for upstaging a friend at a nightclub.
For good measure, he says that he asked Ward how he 'coped' with being 'Mr Madonna'. Ward had replied '****ing insane, man.' Mandrake trusts Mr Grant's performance in Filth and Wisdom will not now end up on the cutting-room floor.

'The Hunk' flunked with Madonna
Posted: 11 June 2007 - Thanks to Rick

Richard Johnson's Page Six gossip column in todays edition of the New York Post had this article which is based on a new biography of John F. Kennedy Jr.:

A lack of latex kept Madonna and John F. Kennedy Jr. from a full-blown sex romp in a no-tell motel one night, a new bio claims.
In 'American Legacy,' one of JFK Jr.'s closest pals from Brown University, Rob Littell, tells author C. David Heymann that during the summer of 1988, Kennedy and the Material Girl stopped off at a 'cheap, dinky' Chicago hotel for a secret rendezvous during which they planned to finally go all the way.
'They were working their way around the bases, and as they rounded third and headed for home, she asked him if he had any protection. He didn't, so now they began discussing how they were going to get a hold of a prophylactic,' Littell tells the author.
'She was still legally married to Sean Penn, and he had a steady girlfriend....They were afraid of being busted. They couldn't very well just meander into a pharmacy and ask for a pack of Trojans. They were too well known....To John's great chagrin, the relationship was never completed.'

He told Heat: 'I'm now with the same publicist (as Madonna) and I've named my dog after her - what more do I have to do? Jesus, I pay to see her in concert, I buy the albums....OK, I don't see the movies. Maybe if I'd seen Swept Away she'd do it. That would be the ultimate sacrifice.'

Madonna attends charity dinner?
Posted: 04 June 2007 - From contactmusic.com

Although the following report states Madonna attended the dinner - she did not appear on any of the picture agencies websites as being at the event!

Sir Elton John and Harry Potter author J K Rowling were among the celebrities at London's Hampton Court Palace in aid of the Raisa Gorbachev Foundation.
The children's charity was established in memory of former Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev's late wife Raisa, aiming to provide funds to help discover a cure for cancer in children.
And the star-studded gala dinner at the palace, themed around a Russian midsummer fantasy, included names as big as Madonna, Lady Thatcher and Sir David Frost who turned up to offer their support.
Mr Gorbachev explained that proceeds from the event, which saw Elton and The Scissor Sistors perform, would go to help provide care for children suffering from cancer in Russia.
He said: 'Through the creation of the Raisa Gorbachev Centre of Children's Haematology and Transplantology in St Petersburg, much-needed medical care of an international standard will soon be available.'
