Lotsa de Casha book auction
Posted: 29 March 2006 - Thanks to Axel

Madonna donated two autographed copies of Lotsa de Casha for a silent auction in aid of The Retired Greyhound Trust. This is a charity that looks after discarded or rejected racing greyhounds and also looks to finding homes for them. This is a project of Rui Paes, the illustrator of Lotsa de Casha, which he vowed to promote while he was doing the illustrations for the book. As we all know, Lotsa is characterised as a greyhound and the situation of these racing dogs is very difficult once they stop being needed. Madonna was great and signed and offered those two autographed books for the auction!

Anyone interested can phone (0870/4440673) or fax (0870/9082525) the RTG to bid on the Madonna signed books until Friday 31 March 2006. From Monday 27 March 2006 you can ring the RTG to find out the latest bid, you may want to go higher.

To support The Retired Greyhound Trust you can also buy a 'regular' copy of Lotsa de Casha for ££11.50 (including postage and packing within the UK). The first 25 copies sold will be personally signed by Rui Paes.

Also check out their website at www.retiredgreyhounds.co.uk

Liz R on US radio lack of interest and the tour
Posted: 26 March 2006

UK newspaper The Sunday Telegraph published a story today looking at why US radio is not playing Madonna anymore even though Confessions... is a worldwide hit, in the article there is an interesting quote from Liz Rosenberg:

Dance music isn't getting the recognition that it deserves on radio stations in America right now, but Madonna really doesn't evaluate the success of a record by its chart position. She likes to come out of a studio feeling she has done the very best work she can and earning the respect of her peers.
She would love American radio to come on board in that way and show the same sort of commitment that European radio has done, but that is not a decision for her. She is about to go on tour and when radio stations are reminded that she is the most phenomenal performer of our time, I am sure they will tune into her again.

Director's cut of Sorry makes the news
Posted: 15 March 2006 - From MSNBC.com

Jeannette Wall's The Scoop column picked up on the story madonnalicious revealed on Monday - that Madonna's Sorry video was too much for TV:

Madonna is still being provocative. The 47-year-old singer’s original video for 'Sorry' was apparently too much for TV.
In the original video, Madonna makes an obscene gesture at the camera. A toned-down version was edited for TV, but the 'director’s cut' can be seen at the production designer's website.
'I guess it was too vulgar for general audiences,' says a source. 'Besides, it is a rather unseemly gesture for a mother of two who, when she’s not making obscene gestures, is singing the praises of Kabbalah and writing inspirational children’s books.'

From Liam:
Madonna's 'Sorry' has debuted at #4 on the ARIA charts in Australia. 'Confessions On A Dance Floor is still in the ARIA Top 20 albums at #17, she has not dropped out of Australian top 20 album charts since it was released.

Madonna related to Camilla
Posted: 13 March 2006 - From contactmusic.com

Madonna surprised Camilla, Duchess Of Cornwall when she phoned to tell the British royal they are distantly related. The 47-year-old Hung Up hitmaker - who has also discovered blood-links with Canadian singer Celine Dion - is urging her 'relations' to join her and genealogist William Addams Reitwiesner in their quest to trace their entire family tree.
Reitwiesner explains, 'Camilla and Madonna are both descended from Zacharie Cloutier, who lived from 1617 to 1708. And Camilla and Celine descend from Jean Guyon, who lived from 1617 to 1708. 'Both Jean and Zacharie died in Chateau-Richer, Quebec. Because of their unusual French-Canadian ancestry, they are all blood relations. Madonna is absolutely fascinated by this.'

Madonna urges USA to embrace female leadership
Posted: 08 March 2006 - From contactmusic.com

Pop star Madonna has accused American citizens of being afraid of electing a female as president of the United States. The Hung Up singer believes while other countries embrace female leadership, Americans are frightened by the concept.
She explains, 'In Europe and Asia and elsewhere, women have ruled over millions; it's not an abstract or frightening or out-of-the-box concept. But in America, men are still afraid of women. And women, I don't think, trust women. I find that amazing.'
The star, who famously portrayed Argentine political icon Eva Peron, would support senator Hilary Clinton if she chose to run for president. She adds, 'She should go for it, definitely. I don't think maybe now is her time, or the Democrats' time, but she should certainly go for it. You've got to start somewhere in terms of women leading the US.'

Madonna draws the biggest cheer
Posted: 07 March 2006 - From the Daily Mail - thanks to Brian

When it came to the unofficial awards for the most eyecatching Oscar party guests yesterday, the result was a dead heat between Madonna and Mick Jagger. Fellow guests could not keep their eyes off the Material Girl and the Rolling Stone when they arrived at a post-awards bash.
In 47-year-old Madonna's case, the main reason was her dramatic pink gown, revealing acres of cleavage which seemed likely to break free at any moment. But vying for the limelight were her arms, heavily muscled following a punishing regime of exercise in the gym.
Madonna drew the biggest cheer of the night from the crowd waiting outside Morton's restaurant in West Hollywood, where the Vanity Fair Oscars party is held. Her British husband Guy Ritchie joined her soon afterwards, putting on a united front following recent rumours that their marriage is on the rocks.

Scotland bound?
Posted: 05 March 2006 - From the Sunday Mail

Madonna playing Murrayfield in Edinburgh this summer? Word is the show is ON. A fortnight ago, we told you the Material Girl had checked out venues in Scotland. Now, our spies tell us the date being penned in is July 28 - but her schedule is changing daily.
A Madonna insider said: 'UK tour dates are under discussion. Scotland is certainly being discussed but it's still a bit away from being cut and dried.' Some ticket agencies claim to be selling briefs for the Capital gig already. One offered us VIP tickets at £400 plus VAT - while another had best seats at £125. But Madonna's people blasted the touts yesterday. The insider said: 'These tickets don't exist and these agencies are stealing your money.'

Get some Madonna with your milk in Sweden
Posted: 04 March 2006 - Thanks to Wilma

Rather strangely Madonna and the history of her hairstyles are adorning selected cartons of milk in Sweden! Here is the translation of the feature:

Madonna is the most famous female star in history. During her career she has had many different clothes styles and hairdos.
While she was a teenager in Bay City, Michigan, she cut her hair short and it stood right up. Later in New York she put olive oil in it and used ballet tights as a hairband. After her breakthrough in 1984 began her fans began to copy her hairstyle - the short bob blonde hair with dark roots.
When she introduced her long blond ponytail in 1990 she was a superstar. The inspiration for this haird? It came from a make-up doll with hair you could pull out.

Popstars have a big influence on the world in different ways, not only with their music. By being seen in a newspaper, magazines and television it is THE example for young people. Hair is the most important accessory for a popstar - in the pop industry you can find the most fantastic hairstyles ever.

Madonna and Guy attend pre-Oscars party
Posted: 04 March 2006 - From newKerala.com

While rumours may be abuzz that pop diva Madonna’s marriage to Guy Ritchie is on the rocks but the couple presented a happy picture at a pre-Oscars dinner hosted by Jamie Oliver in LA’s Soho House.
As other celebs such as Helena Christensen and the Hilton sisters looked on, the film director nestled up to his wife of five years, putting an affectionate arm around her and then planting a kiss on her sleek blonde locks.
The pair and their family are in America for months of rehearsals before Madonna’s Confessions tour. And those close to her, including father Silvio Ciccone, are confident they will ride out any difficulties.
'I think she’s trying to be a good wife. I’m proud she’s been able to keep the marriage going, and she’s a good mother, too,' he was quoted by Hello magazine, as saying.
Despite the clashes of two strong personalities, the Material Girl also regards her English husband as essential to her happiness.
'Guy and I are happy. Yes, we have our problems, but we have so much more,' he added.

Madonna to make festival debut
Posted: 01 March 2006 - From MTV.com - thanks to Art and Chris

Just weeks after announcing that she is planning a scaled-down U.S. tour, Madonna has signed on to play her first-ever festival date. The singer will set up under the big top at this year's Coachella Festival in Indio, California, to perform a set with her band in the massive DJ-heavy Sahara Tent on April 30.
'I've never performed at a festival,' Madonna said in a press release announcing the rare gig. 'And I'm especially excited about playing at Coachella before I start my own tour.'
It's an unexpected move for the pioneering festival, which has booked everyone from hardcore dance/electronic acts Fatboy Slim and Kraftwerk to the Chemical Brothers and Prodigy as headliners in the Sahara Tent in the past, but never an international pop star on the level of Madonna. But that's kind of the point, according to Goldenvoice's Paul Tollette, the show's promoter.
'I love things you don't see all the time,' Tollette said. 'And we're always trying to make it so it's something you don't see anywhere else.' The booking of Madonna adds to a lineup that Tollette said is already packed with some rare treats, including the first-ever major festival appearance in the U.S. by headliners Depeche Mode, the first U.S. gig in nine years from Daft Punk and the first trip to the states in eight years for pioneering trip-hoppers Massive Attack.
Madonna's appearance will be a warm-up of sorts for her upcoming summer tour, which she has said will be a more intimate affair than her past extravaganzas.
