'She was very impressive'
Posted: 30 May 2007 - From NEWS.com.au - thanks to Margit

Actor Richard E. Grant has just filmed a role in Madonna's directorial debut Filth and Wisdom and had this to say about working with Madonna on the project in an interview with Michael Bodey from The Australian:

But only two weeks ago he filmed a role in Madonna's first short film, Filth and Wisdom, in London. He plays a blind writer in the singer's take on a popstar on the make. 'It's autobiographical to her experience but there's no lookalike, wannabe Madonna in it as there was in the film version of my early life,' he says. 'She was very exact and particular about what she wanted as a director and she was very impressive.'

Madonna at the market
Posted: 30 May 2007 - From metro.co.uk - thanks to John

Madonna, the queen of pop, became queen of tarts, after she went in search of a sugar rush to help her through her first attempts at directing a film.
The global superstar was spotted directing her new 30-minute comedy, 'Filth And Wisdom', in Exmouth market, London.
But before there were any lights, camera or action, Her Madgesty, took time to fuss over cakes, tarts and biscuits on display at the vendors' stalls.
Wearing no make-up, scruffy hair and baggy white sweat pants, the lady in-charge told one stall worker: 'Those (cakes) are very bad.'
But in the end he persuaded her, saying: 'I managed to sell her a lemon tart for £1.50.'
Squinting in the sunshine, she then returned to her director's chair for her sunglasses, sipping on a Starbucks and sending text messages.
The 48-year-old stunned shoppers when she and a 20 strong crew rolled in to film at a local chemists.
One passer by said: 'It was a huge surprise to see such a big star. She looked in great shape for someone her age and treated us all to a little tour.'

Adoption set to be challenged by Malawian group
Posted: 29 May 2007 - From ANI Via Yahoo! News

Madonna may soon have a battle on her hands, for a human rights group is getting set to challenge her adoption of Malawian infant David Banda.
Justin Dzonzi, the leader of the group, has stated that he plans to show Malawi's High Court that the music icon's adoption of the 18-month old boy was illegal, as the country has no laws that permit international adoptions.
A Malawian court had granted Madonna and hubby Guy Ritchie an interim order in October last year so that they could take custody of baby David for 18 to 24 months.
However, the decision by the group has David's biological father Yohane Banda fuming, for he just wants everyone to stop hounding the little one.
'He is happy and healthy. I wish they would leave my son alone,' The Sun quoted him, as saying.
Madonna ran into choppy waters over the adoption, when she was not only criticised for taking David away from his birth father, but was also accused of using her wealth to side-step Malawi's adoption laws.

Costner forgives Madonna after concert apology
Posted: 28 May 2007 - From contactmusic.com

Kevin Costner has forgiven Madonna for poking fun at him in her Truth Or Dare backstage documentary, after she took time to publicly apologise to him during a Los Angeles concert. Madonna feigned sticking her finger down her throat to be sick after she was filmed meeting Costner after a show - an action the actor admits 'embarrassed' and 'hurt' him.
But, a decade after the incident, Madonna made up for her bad behaviour when Costner took his daughters to see her in concert.
He tells the Los Angeles Time newspaper, 'She was performing about three or four years ago, so I decided to take my daughters to see her. I didn't call anybody for tickets, I just got the tickets and we went down....And about the third song in, the lights were down, and she said, 'I want to apologise to someone.' All of a sudden, my face starts to get hot....And she says, 'I want to apologise to Kevin Costner.' She just said it very simply. 'Ninety eight per cent of that audience didn't know what she was talking about.'
'But I really respected that....Whatever possessed her, whatever was inside her, she came to her own decision and a bigger thing came out of some kind of humiliation.'

Catholic priest positively reviews Confessions Tour
Posted: 27 May 2007 - From the Catholic News Agency - thanks to Patricia

The Colombian daily El Tiempo published a column by a priest who said he has seen Madonna's DVD of her latest concert tour and defends her 'crucifixion' and nudity and calls the show a model of evangelization.
In a column entitled, 'Madonna: A Suggestive Presentation of Jesus,' Jesuit Father Carlos Novoa, former dean of the Department of Theology at the Javeriana University, said he was impressed by the 'deep spirituality' of some of Madonna's choreography and claimed her parody of the crucifixion 'is not a mockery of the cross, but rather the complete opposite: An exaltation of the mystery of the death and resurrection of Jesus' and a 'creative and moving' work of art.
Father Novoa said the DVD recording of Madonna's 'The Confessions Tour' was something worth viewing for its 'high aesthetic quality.' The song 'Live to Tell,' in which Madonna is 'crucified,' 'is one of the best sermons I have witnessed in my life,' and he challenged Catholics to follow the example of the singer.
'In this postmodern, skeptic world in which so many people abhor or are simply uninterested in the faith, will ministers of the church and Catholics in general have this audacity and this creativity to communicate a Jesus who truly shakes people up on the inside?' Novoa wondered.
The Jesuit priest also defended 'masculine and feminine nudity,' expressed not through 'cheap pornography' but through 'erotic beauty.' He compared Madonna's choreography and nudity with the works of Michelangelo, 'who filled the walls of the Sistine Chapel, the sacrosanct place where the holy father is elected, with frescoes of nude men and women.'
Father Novoa said renowned artists and art critics consider Madonna to be 'one of the best choreographers of our times.' 'In her excellent stage presentations, she sometimes makes use of both male and female nudes, which scandalizes some, as in the case of Michelangelo,' he claimed.
Novoa acknowledged that some of Madonna's antics are 'ridiculous,' but, he claimed, 'they said the same thing about Beethoven when he debuted some of his best compositions and about Picasso, one of the great guides posts of modern-day art, when he presented his master works in 1907: 'Les Demoiselles d'Avignon.'

Madonna takes a leaf out of Guy's book
Posted: 25 May 2007 - From hellomagazine.com via Yahoo! News

Even a seasoned showbiz hand like Madonna needs a little support when she takes on a new venture. So her director husband Guy Ritchie was on hand to pass on tips as the Queen of Pop clocked up a first: directing a movie.
The 30-minute short Filth And Wisdom features a subject matter that strays not too far from her area of expertise. The superstar singer has revealed the film is based on her own life experiences, but has otherwise kept details of the project hush hush. 'I hate to be a tease, but you know how I am,' she told fans.
On the shoot in a London street market this week the Material Girl, dressed in a casual green tracksuit teamed with a skull and crossbones cap, was all business giving instructions from the director's chair.
Characters reportedly include an Indian chemist owner, a Jewish businessman and a failed ballet dancer who takes up pole dancing. Madonna is hoping filming will wrap by July when she aims to be back in the recording studio. Meanwhile, her other half is set to return to film-making with RocknRolla a low budge gangster flick he has written and produced himself.

Minister convicted for Madonna show bomb hoax
Posted: 21 May 2007 - From the Metro - thanks to Simon

An Amsterdam court has convicted a 63-year-old clergyman for calling in a false bomb alert before a Madonna concert. The court in Amsterdam sentenced Willem G. from Waardenburg to 150 hours of community service and a suspended prison sentence on Wednesday.
The minister will also have to undergo treatment at a psychiatric clinic and report to a probation officer. The penalty matched the demand from the public prosecution department.
The preacher called in a false bomb alert just before the Madonna concert in the Amsterdam ArenA in September. G. warned that five cluster bombs would detonate during the scene in which the American pop singer poses on a cross and wears a crown of thorns. G. found the crucifixion scene blasphemous.

Donna De Lory Fan Report: We had so much fun....
Posted: 21 May 2007

madonnalicious visitor Richard has sent in this fan report from a Donna De Lory show in Boulder last weekend - as fans will know Donna is the long time backing singer for Madonna and most recently worked with her on the Confessions Tour:

Hi, my name is Richard and I live in Denver, CO. When I found out that Donna De Lory was going to perform at the Unity Church in near-by Boulder I decided to check it out. I got there at 7:45 pm and the church was filling up. Donna came out at about 8:20 pm. She played her harmonium and sang a lot of songs in Sanscrit. Keeping her company were two musicians (Ty and Cameron) and all three of them connected with the audience right away.
They even played a song they had composed just the day before and Donna mentioned she was still going to add another verse to it. Her voice was so strong and beautiflul. She was barefoot and kept sipping her tea throughout the evening. The music was very uplifting and you could tell everybody really enjoyed it. The atmosphere in the church was just perfect. When I looked around people were closing their eyes and some of them even got up and danced in the back of the church. I am sure Donna felt all the energy as well as she seemed to be ad libbing a lot and some of the songs went for almost 10 minutes.

After the show I decided to stick around to see if I could meet Donna and maybe get a picture with her. She came out soon after and chatted with a few people. As soon as I had a chance I approached her (I was quite nervous, so Donna please forgive me if I came across kind of dorky). I told her how much I enjoyed her performance and would like her to sign my ticket. Her response was 'of course'. She asked me what my name was and how I heard about the show. I told her it was posted on a couple of Madonna websites. She said: 'Oh, that's really nice of them' and signed my ticket.
'So what did you think? It was probably different than you expected?' she asked me referring to the show. I said I had not heard her music before, but I really expected it to be different and quite frankly it was definitely different than anything I have heard before.
Then I told her I saw the Confessions Tour in Vegas, Phoenix, and the last show in Tokyo. She responded: 'We had so much fun....' and then she turned to Ty and said: 'Hey Ty, this is Richard and he found out about us through a Madonna web site. They are so nice for posting that.' I asked her if I could take a picture with her and she asked Ty to do it. 'You should write a review and send it to the web sites', she suggested. I said 'Of course and I will send them the picture too.'
She asked me if I had taken any pictures during the show and I said I wanted to, but did not want to be disrespectful especially using the flash.

After that I thanked her, gave her a big hug, and wished her best of luck. She said I should talk to Paul who was selling CDs in the hallway, but when I got there he seemed to be busy talking to people, so I did not want to interrupt. It was getting late and I had a drive back to Denver ahead of me. I am glad I went to see Donna's performance. She is definitely special. You can tell kindness is just glowing from her face. Thank you Donna for a wonderful uplifting evening!

On the experience of working with Madonna:

She's Madonna. It doesn't get any cooler than that. I spent a week in the studio with her in London and we....we produced about five or six....some really good tracks....some finished, some not finished. I'm gonna go back in July and work on some more stuff.

On the possibility of singing with Madonna:

Uh, possibly, yeah. Her work ethic is very infectious in the studio. I was kind like, man, I'm too slow. She's a workhorse. I'm just a fan. I'm basically just a fan who, like, tricked Madonna. (laughs)

Bjork: Madonna got my lyrics wrong
Posted: 09 May 2007 - From Digital Spy - thanks to StellaSteven

Bjork has revealed that Madonna sang the wrong lyrics on the 1995 single she wrote for the pop queen.
The Icelandic star penned lyrics for 'Bedtime Story', which Madonna took to number four in the charts in February 1995, at the request of producer Nellee Hooper.
However, she was surprised when she first heard Madonna's recording of the song.
She told Attitude: 'She did her own version and wrote the lyrics wrong. I can't remember right now, but it was a really interesting mistake.'
'It was something like 'Let's say goodbye to logic and reason' and she got it wrong so that it actually meant the opposite....I was like, 'Okay....''

The idea of the project is to encourage wannabe actors, magicians, singers and entertainers to post video clips of themselves to the Big Shot website, while other visitors pick their favourites. The winner of each week's video entry lottery will then be flown to Hollywood to audition in front of a talent scout. For wannabe actors, the opportunity to appear in a Maverick produced TV show or movie could be their prize.

Madonna swaps sweet charity for lap dancing
Posted: 07 May 2007 - From the Daily Mail - thanks to Jeanette

Three weeks after returning from Africa for a charity mission to help orphans, Madonna has moved her focus - to lap dancers.
The singer put saving the world on hold while she auditioned tabletop dancers for her latest project, rumoured to be a short film.
Visiting London club Secrets, the mother of three looked decidedly demure in baggy trousers, an open collared shirt and dark oversized glasses.
She briefly wandered around outside the premises with a giant coffee in hand, before heading in to meet the hopefuls.
She is said to have asked a number of girls to read from a script before taking to the stage to perform.
Madonna recently returned from Malawi where she spent six days with her daughter Lourdes and son David, 1, whom she is adopting.
Friends say Madonna is looking to adopt daughter from the country, although her publicist has denied this.

Cohen nearly missed out on video appearance
Posted: 06 May 2007 - From contactmusic.com

Madonna got a nasty surprise when she begged Sacha Baron Cohen to appear in one of her music videos - she received a torrent of abuse from the Borat funnyman. Cohen was asked to star in the promo for the song Music in 2000, but refused to believe the person on the other phone was really the Queen of Pop and began to scream obscenities at her. He recalls, 'I got a call from someone claiming to be Madonna. I thought it was a prank so I proceeded to totally insult the woman on the end of the line.' Luckily, Madonna forgave him and he appeared on the video as one of his characters Ali G.

Madonna turns down Diana concert
Posted: 04 May 2007 - From Digital Spy

Madonna has turned down the opportunity to perform at the Diana Memorial concert due to prior commitments.
The pop icon was reportedly approached by Andrew Lloyd Webber to perform on stage in her famous role as Eva Peron.
She was however forced reject the offer because of her scheduled rehearsals for the Live Earth concert.
The memorial concert, which marks the 10th anniversary of Princess Diana's death, is being held on July 1 - what would have been Diana's 46th birthday.
A source told the Mirror, 'Live Earth approached Madonna first and she is committed to performing there. It would be extremely hard to rehearse for both gigs at the same time and she wouldn't want to give less than a 100 per cent to either.'
'Andrew Lloyd Webber was very understanding when she felt she had to say no.'
