Thursday 06 July - TD Banknorth Garden, Boston

From David-Anthony:
Madonna is TRULY the Queen. What an amazing show. I have been reading all the reviews and didn't think I would be as surprised, but it is totally different live.
The show flowed beautifully and I'm finding it hard to pinpoint which were my favorite parts of the show. It was so entertaining from the moment the disco ball descended to the stage to the last words, 'Have You Confessed?'
I will remember this night forever and can't wait for the DVD so I can relive it over and over again.

From Flavio:
Madonna's first performance in Boston was just a state of the art show. Everything was perfect, including the temperature of 85ºF demanded by the Queen.
The Stadium was swinging along with the crowd when she sang Music and Ray Of Light. Her Isaac performance was a very classic one and everyone was astonished.
When she said that she loved Boston too, after singing I Love New York, the audience screamed their lungs out. The show was so extremely good that time went by really quick.
On the Hung Up performance....she gave all of herself and so did the dancers, it was a show out of this world. Madonna once again has proved that she is the best, and that she can do better. You go Madge!

From GrEgG*e:
Madonna’s show was Incredible last night! I think she could feel the excitement of the audience in Boston. My favorite was the opening with Future Lovers and then going into I Feel love, by Donna Summer. I must say she sounded flawless!
After she sang I Love New York, she said, 'You know what Boston? I like you guys too!'
She proceeded to drink some water and someone screamed out 'I love you Madonna!'. She said, 'you love me?' And he said yes! Madonna then said, 'well would you die for me?' And he said YES! She was like, 'well I have someone here in Boston that would actually die for me!'

From Jennifer:
I had the awesome opportunity of attending opening night in Hartford and in Boston. I am originally from CT, but now live in Boston. I was so excited to find out that Madonna was finally coming to my home town, I could not miss that opportunity. As any dedicated Madonna fan would do I arrived at the Hartford Civic Center early wearing my Italians Do It Better t-shirt, waiting so patiently in anticipation to see the stage and feel the energy. Other concert goers almost scowled at my shirt, they couldn't be true fans. The concert began and to my dismay there wasn't the usual Madonna energy.
I read your site often and critics said Confessions is the best tour yet and in Hartford I just didn't feel it. There was hardly anyone there dressed up and the excitement wasn't there. Madonna herself didn't seem as into it as she usually is. I was so disappointed, I began questioning everything. I had to watch 'I'm going to Tell You a Secret' to get myself prepared for Boston. I know what she is capable of, could it be she has lost it?
Last night I attended opening night in Boston. It was everything everyone has said and more. The crowd was going crazy jumping, yelling, singing just enjoying the show and Madonna herself was into it. She was talking to us so much, she wanted to know if we would die for her, if we loved her.
She sang 'I Love New York' and you could tell the crowd was not into the song, I mean come on everyone knows the rivalry between the cities. The crowd almost stood still and then Madonna yelled to all of us....'I love Boston too' and the crowd went nuts. She said that the NYC fans are supposed to be crazy but Boston was crazier. I swear you could almost feel the building moving with energy and dancing.
Madonna hasn't lost it, she is still amazing and I love her more and more every time I see her. I am not sure if Madonna will go back to Hartford should she tour again, but in Boston we love her and what a show!

From ksmithnyc:
WOW....what an absolute transcendental rush. I got tickets right along the center catwalk row 13 section A.....during 'Get Together', she rolled over on the catwalk and looked right at me as she was singing....then moved closer and closer and reached out her hand until I reached out mine and took her hand. It sounds so silly, but it was just like an absolute dream.
The concert was amzing....the expected rush of energy and light and visual and music and fabulous and fun, fun, fun. WOW.

From Matt:
Despite newspapers and local TV stations TRYING to overshadow unparallelled TALENT, by dwelling on ticket prices or clinging to 'hot' temperatures (it's a concert - of course it's hot!) here is my blow-by-blow review of the amazing 2006 Confessions Tour from Thursday, July 6th, live at the TD Bank North Garden in Boston, Massachusetts:
'Future Lovers/I Feel Love' - Exhilarating us with hype of a do-or-die rematch between Madonna and the horse, the show had 'just begun' and the crowd went nuts! The battle between the bitch and the beast- this could've even been shown for the Reinvention opener! It was like a matter of life or death - the challenge was underway!
When Madonna BURST outta the disco ball, the place exploded! The 'I Feel Love' sequence was heard crystal-clear, which suggested to me that MAYBE this small portion COULD'VE been lip-synched, unlike later on for such songs as 'Live To Tell' and 'Erotica' which were smothered by the roaring crowd. Even so, it was a good combination and the mixture flowed well together.
'Get Together' - Totally impressive that Madonna can still dance with 20-something-year-olds, the kaleidoscope imagery in the background made this one fun to watch!
'Like A Virgin' - I remember, as the opening seconds of this one played, before anyone yet knew which song was coming, I yelled 'LIKE A VIRGIN!' And instantly, the electricity started to build! When she proceeded to do stripper moves, like spread her legs and do splits in mid-air, even humping the crowd from atop the elevated mechanical bull while holding onto the pole, I knew we were in for another death-defying Madonna concert-experience!
'Jump' - One of my favorites off the latest album, I was looking forward to this one! Dare-devil stunts and leaps of faith, it's a wonder somebody didn't crack their head open or kill themselves!
'Live To Tell' - While slowly erected into her well-publicized crucified position, the fans were on their feet! In fact, many people didn't sit down throughout the entire show! It was good to finally hear this song again live for the first time in 16 years. She finally reached the cross in that Blond Ambitious sky....
'Forbidden Love' - Featuring a unique arm-in-arm 'homodance', Madonna proudly supported gay culture and acceptance with her very fitting lyrics.
'Isaac' - Actually hurting people's ear drums temporarily with his loud and infamous horn on stage, the live Isaac delivered in classic calibre with his exotic words that lingered throughout the building. Inexperienced next to Madonna, I thought certain lines or words were a bit off key, but overall he did a great job. One ironic point, I noticed when Madonna sang the line, 'Wrestle with your darkness,' a World Wrestling Entertainment-style steel cage was utilized on stage! I was pleased with the reception this performance received, with such foreign customs complementing the song.
'Sorry' - Incredibly, with even less US radio airplay than 'Hung Up', the crowd's response for this little number was deafening! The fans erupted! Seeing Madonna's video choreography unfold in person, was unbelievable!
'Like It Or Not' - Contrarily, I was overwhelmed with disappointment over the audience's oblivious reaction to this one - my favorite song off the album. It seemed like I was the only one around me who knew the words! Nonetheless, Madonna strutted her stuff solo and I truly hope all the local New England radio stations were listening! Like It Or Not is very underrated. But, I see it as a sequel to 'Don't Tell Me' or 'Nobody Knows Me'....
The political 'Sorry' remix video that aired was preciously provocative - staying true to her feelings from the 2003 American Life album. It was vindicating for me to watch, as I envisioned such theme the first times I listened to the lyrics of 'Sorry' when the CD was released. I believe this was the clip that climaxed with a sperm-cell-formation of the yin-yang symbol....
'I Love New York' - I have to admit, this performance was impressive. It was cool to see the New York skyline draw itself on the big screen, and you could feel the momentum build as it did so. The finale saw Madonna head-bang her way out of her furry French collar while jammin' out on her guitar in true '80's metal 'hair band' fashion! The people were very respectful during the song, especially considering the famous Yankee feud with 'Red Sox Nation!' Afterwards, Madonna said, 'Ya know, Boston- you're not so bad either!'
In the limo on the way home, my brother's friend who came along asked, 'What did she say after, 'Just go to Texas'?' I confirmed - 'And, you can suck George Bush's dick!'
'Ray Of Light' - As demanded, the people jumped up and down ansd cheered with approval for this - my favorite Madonna song of all time.
'Let It Will Be' - Although musically I like the album version better, there's something about the Cyndi Lauper-ish energy Madonna has during this song - the way she rocks out with a kick of her foot, a throw of her fist, and a bop of her head.
'Drowned World/Substitute For Love' - Unlike 'Die Another Day' I believe mainly this song is about destroying her ego. As she sat down to catch her breath, a fan nearby yelled, 'I love you!' as was captured on the giant TV monitor in the arena. Madonna questioned, 'Really? Would you die for me?' 'I would die for you!' agreed the front-row fanatic. It seems that Madonna played along with the question just before switching gears for 'Drowned World', to show her fans just how much her ego has changed. One of my favorite performances of the night, definitely.
'Paradise (Not For Me)' - Madonna introduced her friend, Isaac, for another duet - outstanding. There's nothing more awesome than the sound of live electronic vocals. Another favorite. My best friend made us all laugh by singing through one later line, except instead of saying, 'There is a light above my head,' he said, 'There is another jedi!' LOL
'Music Inferno' - Alright, I confess - I was frustrated to see this track on the set list this time around. After all, she already performed it at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC, the Brixton Academy in London, the MTV Europe Music Awards 2000, the Grammy Awards in 2001 - which was one of the greatest Madonna performances ever. Then of course, the Drowned World Tour, the Reinvention Tour - and I had believed the song culminated at Live 8, when she got 200,000 people in Hyde Park to clap and sing along. How can you top that? But somehow, she proved me wrong!
You have to see this 'Music' performance to believe it: the energy, the excitement, the excellence! It's what Madonna's all about! I noticed a sample from 'Where's The Party?!' as well....
'La Isla Bonita' - Okay, it was fast, fun, and flashy - but I'm standing my ground on this one. To me, the mood and design of the Drowned World Tour production of this song, will always galvanize it best....but, it kept the pace of the show moving nicely.
'Erotica' - This one confused me a bit, because neither me nor anyone I was with, could hear or comprehend any of the vocals besides the chorus.
'Lucky Star' - With 19 years of new technology, it was fun to see this old hit come alive like never before!
'Hung Up' - Let US radio hear it loud and clear - 'You'll wake up one day, but it'll be too late!' The massive disco ball illuminated the entire spectacle! Everyone got to sing along - 'Time goes WHAT?!' 'So slowly!' 'I-can't-hear-you,' 'So slowly!' This again reminded me of Live 8.
I was sad when it was over, because when you see something this great you never want it to end! We all continued applauding in the dark for what seemed to be an eternity after the music stopped. 'Have You Confessed?' Then finally, the lights came back on, we filed outta the Garden with 'Get Together' playing in the background, and cooled off with better air-conditioning once exiting the arena.
All in all, there was sex and politics and religion and disco. Acrobatics, gymnastics, lighting, dancing, costumes, choreography, and one brilliant leader! Madonna's disco cape even lit up at one point when the lights were off, tantalizing spectators.
'Confessions On A Dance TOUR' was one of the greatest concerts I've ever seen in my life. It will solidify her place in music immortality as the last American artist. Her success is undeniable and her ICON-status is undisputed. Long live the queen!

From Rob:
Madonna was amazing for her first Boston show of the Confessions tour.
Our seats were 23rd row, with our seats on the edge of the catwalk , where the ball comes down. Couldn't have had better seats. She was less than 3 ft away at times.
I was dancing and singing along all night, and when she was singing 'La Isla Bonita' she put the mike in my face and I sang (or tried to, hopefully the mike was off).
The energy of the dancers was amazing and of course Madge was as beautiful as ever. I've never seen a better show.

From Sandy/Sanfire75:
We went up to Boston on Wednesday and made it into a mini vacation. My sister paid for us to go with the 350 dollar seats. She came out of the Crystal Ball and my sister just stood there in awwwwww Could not even move! I was like there's your Idol....We just couldn't believe how close we were and that Madonna was right in front of us. I had called the venue before we left I wanted so badly to bring the camera but they told me no. So instead of hiding it or trying to get in in I just left it.
I'm excited to see who takes good Boston pics cause I really wanna do a scrap book of all the Boston pics. And if anyone has an extra GOLD balloon I'd really like one we couldn't reach ours and my sister really wants one if anyone has extra let me know!
Thanks to Boston and Madonna it was the BEST TRIP!

From Stephen:
The first Boston show was electric. M had her game on and the audience was the best yet. I seen her in Hartford (yuck) then in NYC on July 2 (lots of industry) The Boston show had a more intimate feel. After seeing the show twice you start to notice glitches here and there. During I Love New York she was having trouble with her guitar and mike pack they extended the beginning until she was ready.
The best audience interaction by far was when I man in the first row yelled to Madonna from the front row saying 'I love you' and she replied back 'you really love me' and the man replied back 'I would Die for You' Madonna said 'I feel overwhelmed that you would die for me' she seemed a bit stunned at the statement.

From William:
The opening night Boston show was amazing! Who knew that 24th row seats would be as good, if not better than front row seats. She performed most of her show on the catwalk and the end stage. If the songs weren’t performed on the end stage, she at least made a trip there during most of them, save for a few. I think that we had better tickets than front row. When she was on the mainstage, we could see the entire show and when she was on the catwalk, she was just a few feet from us. If you had front row tickets, when she was on the end stage, you were watching her from behind.
She sounded great, looked great, had a great time chatting with the audience and put on an amazing show. Of all the concerts I’ve seen, including 6 of hers since 1985, I’ve never seen a crowd this energetic. People say she’s a has been and past her prime and that younger people don’t know who she is. You might want to explain that to all the teenagers I saw at her show. And you might want to explain that to the kids who vote her videos number one on TRL.
Oh yeah, and you might want to explain that to the concert promoters, as she is in the midst of one of the top grossing concert tours of all time! She’s not going anywhere.

Sunday 09 July - TD Banknorth Garden, Boston

From Chris:
I just got home to Montreal from the 2nd show in Boston last night, and it was absolutely incredible! I was watching the front row seats like a hawk and noticed that half an hour after the show was supposed to start, they were still empty, so my cousin Laura, my friend Sean and myself snuck down there and got to stay the entire show! We moved down 17 rows!
Madonna's performance was out of this world! She had a couple of technical problems though. Her mic cut out a few times; most notable for the entire second verse of MUSIC, but other than that, the show was amazing!
My favorite line of the show was, after she sang I LOVE NEW YORK, she asked us 'Do you think I should write a song called 'I love Boston?' The crowd went mental! This show was definitely worth the drive from Montreal!

From Chris Snow:
I went to Madonna second show at the TD Banknorth in Boston. It was so damn amazing. She seemed so relaxed and she said before Drowned World/Substitute for Love 'Boston you make me so relaxed....thank you for me make me so calm and relaxed' or something along those lines. She seemed like she was in a playful attitude. Also she said something about 'There are times in my life where I have these moments of great appreciation....this is one of them.' The crowd went insane!
During Ray Of Light the crowd was making the arena feel like it was shaking! And during Jump the crowd was in awe. But what amazed me the most was how does a 47 year old women do all this. She has so much energy, dances like no one else can, and singing while jumping up and down, playing a guitar! Madonna no doubt rocked Boston that night!

From Dave:
I saw Madonna's second performance at the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston and it was absolutely fabulous. The atmosphere was amazing and the entire audience stood up during the entire performance and Madonna delivered on making the Garden into a big disco!
Her voice sounded beautiful and she was giving it her all but you also could see how relaxed she was in Boston. Madonna repeatedly said how she loved Boston and how relaxed and comfortable she was. She got Boston to sing 'I Love New York' and that is an amazing feat! It was a fantastic show and everyone around me loved it as well! I just wish I could see the performance again.

From Fernando:
I sat 10th row on the floor CATWALK SEATS....right next to her....
At this point she acknowledges me and my famous shirt....during 'Let It Will Be' she came down the catwalk and she came RIGHT to me and I was singing along right with her....our EYES locked once again as in Hartford, CT, except this time, I stuck my hand out and to my surprise, SHE GAVE ME A HIGH FIVE! The crowd around me went INSANE! It was incredible! I felt AWESOME! Later through the show, she winked again and I just felt SO SO SO special!
I will be in Philly Thursday evening CATWALK SEATS again....

From Roger:
I went to the July 9th concert in Boston, this was my second Madonna show in my life. Last time I had seen her was in 2004 during the Reinvention Tour, also in Boston.
The thing is, I live in Lima, Peru, so it was quite a trip just to go see her, but I must say it was all and more than I ever expected. Number one: my location was PERFECT, right at the end of the catwalk. Though my place was about 7 seats away from the catwalk, I managed to stay right next to the catwalk fence even though the guards kept telling me to go back and sit down. Then they got really serious about it and made EVERYONE that was standing there go sit down and we were told we´d be able to go back up as soon as the show started.
That really got me down, I had already pictured myself right next to her and then everything was blown to pieces. I was trying to stay happy by telling myself 'you've got a good seat, it's very close anyway' but I thought my night was ruined.
Then, the lights went down and the show began and everyone started to run towards the catwalk. There were about 7 people in front of me, but thanks (and I really mean THANKS!) to some girls behind me who pushed their way towards the catwalk, I ended up right there, front row. I could not believe it. The disco ball began to come down and then it opened and then....I just couldn't stop screaming. It was amazing to see her that close, plus SHE LOOKED AT ME just as she began to sing. We definitely made eye contact. I kept reaching out for her but she didn't do anything about it. I did that during the whole night.
The show was absolutely amazing, her voice incredible as well as the dancing. I can't believe how beautiful she is, and her skin is flawless. Really amazing. I could not help myself from jumping up and down during the whole concert. I loved the images projected on the screens, especially the one of her right before Music, where she´s wearing the red sequined dress.
Then I remember one of the girls that pushed me asking people to let her stand next to the catwalk so that she would be able to take a close picture of Madonna when she came down but nobody let her do it, until she asked me, and of course, I let her. She was extremely thankful. And right then, well actually a couple of songs later, during La Isla Bonita, right after she and the dancers start running down the catwalk, Madonna knelt in front of me and GRABBED MY HAND!
I couldn't believe. I STILL can't believe. It was my left hand. It was just what I needed to make the trip absolutely complete. I never expected it.
The rest of the show was just as amazing. Especially Hung Up (and Lucky Star). I loved everything about this tour, such energy, definitely the best concert of my life.

From R Trester:
The show itself was absolutley amazing. She showed a bit more flair and attitude this time than during the Reinvention Show. I was bothered a bit by the lack of enthusiasm by the crowd-especially before the show started. Granted, by the time the show was in full-swing, most people were up and out of their seats dancing-except for this family. A father, mother, and child left rather suddenly after Madonna's first two or three songs. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. They weren't the only ones who left, there were others.
Back to the lack of enthusiasm part of my story. Boston seemed lame. Maybe it's the uptight, conservative nature of the city, but one usually finds the fans going ape crap before the show starts, usually in anticipation. This was definitely not the case on Sunday. If she ever tours again and picks Boston (which I hope she doesn't) I won't go there again. I want to be in a place where people LOVE MADONNA and SHOW IT!

From Tom:
Wow! She was really on top of her game. I had the chance to see her in Hartford a couple weeks ago, and I'd say that the show was MUCH better last night. She seemed to be friendlier and was talkative with the audience. With Boston's large Italian population coupled with the Italian win of the World Cup happening only hours before the show, you could tell that there was just a crazy atmosphere permeating through the city. I'm sure many people celebrated in the North End (where many celebrations of the World Cup win occurred) and attended the Madonna show in the evening.
Anyways, the show was top-notch. She had an absolutely GORGEOUS smile on her face as she came out of the big disco ball at the beginning. In the middle of 'Future Lovers' she smiled at the audience as if she were saying 'I've got you under my spell'. This continued throughout the night - there was even a moment or two in 'Live To Tell' where it looked like she was smiling while she was on the cross.
After 'I Love New York', she said 'Maybe I'll write a song called 'I Love Boston''. To which everyone cheered! She said 'I'll do it if you jump up and down in the next song', which perfectly introduced 'Ray of Light'. Before 'Drowned World' she said 'Sometimes I take my job for granted, and sometimes I realize how lucky I am to be doing what I do. Thank you for being here when I realized that tonight. Thank you for making me feel comfortable and relaxed in Boston, Massachusetts!'
This was my last time being able to see the show live! I hope she makes a 'Confessions Tour' DVD!

Monday 10 July - TD Banknorth Garden, Boston

From Jen:
Oh. My. God. Last night was really my lucky night. We went to our balcony seats early and a man from the concert staff came up to us and asked us if we could dance. We said yes and he just handed us tickets ON THE FLOOR!
The show exceeded all of our expectations and Madonna looked hot throughout. After singing 'I Love New York' she said she would write a song called 'I Love Boston' as soon as she could find a word that rhymes with 'Boston.' For a few seconds she buried her head in her hands trying to think of words. It was so cute!
Anyway, she did seem a little miffed that she did not sell out. She asked some people on the floor (who weren't dancing), 'Did you pay for your tickets or did someone give them to you?' Rrrowr!

From Lou:
Hi everyone. I was at the Boston Show on Sunday July 9th. First off you have to understand that while I am a huge fan, I don't blindly love everything she does. That being said, when I say this was the best show ever, I mean it really was the best show ever!
I have seen all of her tours live except for Blond Ambition which I have seen both the France and Japan performances. While the Re-Invention tour may have been a greatest hits tour in terms of content, the Confessions Tour is a greatest hits in terms of incorporating the best of her past tours.
On the one hand it was provocative and elaborately staged like Blond Ambition, Girlie Show and Drowned World. On the other hand it had a frantic, fun, almost cheesy quality to it like Virgin Tour and Who's That Girl. Madonna was warm, friendly and connecting to the audience like Re-Invention tour.
Highlights: The opening is amazing. There is so much anticipation with the ball dropping and waiting to open. The horse thing works much better than it looked on paper. 'I Love New York' and 'Ray Of Light' rocked the house. The whole last part of the show, from 'Music Inferno' on was non-stop energy and excitement.
'Drowned World' was the single most sincere, beautiful thing she has ever done. Right before this song she told the audience that she felt relaxed and welcomed and was appreciative of having a great job. This sentiment was obvious in her delivery of the song. (I cried a little it was so real). The audience was way into it, the energy in the arena was incredible. Everyone stood the whole time, even during the ballads.
There was riotuous applause and jumping and dancing all night. The projections were awesome. They fit the songs and complimented the songs instead of overpowering them. The choreagraphy was inspired and flawlessly executed. The lowlights (if you can call them that): alot of fools were more intent on taking pictures the whole time instead of enjoying the show, but, that's their loss, not mine, 'Let It Will Be' and (shockingly to me) 'Jump' seemed underwhelming to me, the interlude leading into 'Live To Tell' set the mood, but, kind of came off like bad performance art, it was ungodly hot.
The night was amazing and felt like it was over in just a few minutes.
It was great to experience the political parts of the show in a Democratic town! I had wicked cool seats: row 10 on the floor, 5 feet from the catwalk and the 'Like A Virgin' stage, 20 feet from the main stage.
Seeing M this close was a dream come true. We could see all her facial expressions, individual beads of sweat etc. I've always thought she was an attractive woman who could look very good with the right makeup and lighting. In reality she is strikingly beautiful, but, I think, not because of any particular features, but, because she is happy and fullfilled in life.
Maybe that's the thing that made this show so special. She seems to have found a way to 'let it will be'. She can be warm and spirtitual and maternal in one breath and sassy and calling us a bunch of mother fuckers in the next, and being playful and silly in the one after that. All these different parts are not incompatible.
It's real life and she's a real person (though in the form of the most fabulous Diva superstar ever).
My gratitude to her, and everyone involved with the show. They obviously all work their asses off; the end product is worth it. Here's something I never thought I'd say in my lifetime '$350.00 for one ticket was so worth it'.

From Robert:
Just wanted to say that the last night Madonna performed in Boston was absolutely CLASSIC! I'm sure I'm the last person to comment by now but I just couldn't resist! :) I was in the front row at the end of the catwalk and everyone around me was a huge fan and knew the words to every single song, including 'You Thrill Me'.
I spotted one of the 'Forbidden Love' dancers walking by near the end of the show at one point when he was not onstage, and before the show started some tour personnel asked the lovely girl sitting next to me if she wouldn't mind donating her 'I Love Cloud' T-shirt to Cloud's collection! Halfway through the show they returned and she switched shirts with one they gave her, and both Cloud AND Madonna made very clear eye contact with her at several points in the show.
Guy Oseary came over and hugged a man sitting two seats over who Madonna also made eye contact with throughout the show. Sitting about six or seven seats further down was none other than Aerosmith frontman (and Boston resident) Steven Tyler! Her voice sounded better than I have ever heard her, live or on record, and the 'Confessions' songs never sounded so superior!
I almost gave the ticket to another fan because the night before was so mind-blowing, but thankfully fate pushed me towards the Light and I took my physically/emotionally/mentally shattered self in hand and had the night of my life! Thank you and bless you to Madonna and her Team for mounting the towering apex of her artistic output thus far!
