Saturday 24 July - Philips Arena, Atlanta

From Chris R:
Madonna rocked Hot-lanta tonight and the show was AMAZING! She came out almost an hour late but it was well worth the wait to hear her belt out her old hits as well as her new ones.
The crowd went wild when she sang Burning Up. During Like a Prayer she told everyone to get off their asses and dance. She said this a shake your booty song!
Madonna sounded better than ever. Her voice resonated through the arena and everyone was pleased! Madonna still has it going on!
I have seen four of her tours now and this by far was the best yet! Madonna is definitely my 'home girl!'

From Diego:
I am wordless. This was best show I've ever seen in my life. She looked stunning, her voice was flawless, she did not mess up with the words even once. It was incredibly flawless.
Loved the part after Papa Don't Preach when she said 'One day you wake up and realise you are a grown up. All grown-ups should fuck off!'
The video imagery was beyond this world. I'm so excited I'm going back tomorrow.

From Mario:
A note to tell you that the show in Atlanta was incredible (I just came back from the show). Everything went well, and I thought Madonna gave an energetic and passionate performance.
Philips Arena was full and the crowd was very responsive except in the songs from the American Life CD, during which most people sat (but they clapped at the end of them). This pissed me off a little because I thought Mother And Father/Intervention was really good (with the background videos showing Jesus' heart beating and near the end, a man being tortured; and her voice and guitar playing were superb).
Other favorite moments for me were all the interludes (especially Bedtime Story and the Hollywood extravaganza); the new version of Deeper And Deeper, in which Madonna sang extraordinarily well; the rock version of Burning Up; Vogue (gorgeous choreography); Like A Prayer with a great vocal performance by Madonna AND Siedah, and that fantastic recorded choir of African Americans; and the whole
Into The Groove-Holiday final section, which was non-stop fun, including the heartfelt rendition of Crazy For You dedicated to the fans (even though I knew she was going to dedicate that to 'us', I felt really touched by her attitude during that song, it definitely felt like a warm 'thank you' to the fans).
I loved the entire show, but I thought her voice during Nothing Fails was not very good (and she was a little bit off during Frozen too). But the rest of the songs were really well performed (she did lipsynch parts of Vogue, Nobody Knows Me and Die Another Day but the rest of the show was evidently totally live).
And, again, I think the audience did not make justice to her newest and not-so-well-known songs (for example, not a lot of people seemed happy with Hanky Panky, but I thought it was absolutely great and fitted the show very well). But the audience was great when she sang the most popular material and even grooved to Nobody Knows Me and Die Another Day.
A great show, I am very satisfied and love Madonna even more now!
P.S She wore the 'Kabbalists Do It Better' t-shirt, and I don't remember she messing up any of the lyrics....

From Brant:
I said this about the Drowned World Tour and I will say it about The Re Invention Tour - absolutely indescribable moments. During the show, she made the comment that, 'as she travels further south, the audiences seem to get better!'

From Justin:
OMG! Is all I can say about last nights show. She did a flawless performance with no mishaps I could see and her voice like everyone has been saying recently, was absolutly gorgeous. This show in my own personal opinion was ten times better than the Drowned World tour and the merchandise was better as well.
My favorite parts where the catwalk sequences and the parts where she came over to my side of the stage. Mother And Father, Nothing Fails, Like A Prayer, Holiday and Into The Groove were exceptional stand outs for me but every song was awesome.
I did notice that not a lot of people were into Hanky Panky but I was shaking my booty singing along to her. I never wanted it to end. everything was sooo awesome, the dancing, sets, costumes. and I love how she re did a lot of the songs.
They sound so much better and it was truly touching when she sang Imagine. It had me in tears. I'm very hoarse today from screaming Esther and I love to madonna so I'm going to close for now.
I've been a huge hard core fan of madonna's since I was 6 and now I'm 24 and she still excites, thrills and enlightens me and gives me my strenght and for that I'll always be greatful to her. Kudos to you Madonna. I just wish I could aford to go to Sunday's show.

From Tim M:
I've seen Madonna perform many times and I can say last night's show in Atlanta was one of the best I've ever seen. She was full of energy with a voice toned as well as her biceps.
The show was a visually stimulating attack on the senses and left me feeling exhilarated and exhausted. I can say as she rose out from under the stage and struck the first pose of 'Vogue' I thought I was going to lose my mind and it only got better from there. GENIUS....pure GENIUS!
This time out she gave us the old and the new and it was one of the best night's of my life. For anyone who didn't get tickets to see Madonna this time out I hope you will be able to see 'The Re-Invention Tour' on television or DVD.

From Harikuyo:
Tried to write last night but I was way too tired. The show was INCREDIBLE! Madonna sounded great, the crowd was very high energy and very loud. Everyone was having a great time. She didn't talk to the crowd too much, though. I think she doesn't really like Atlanta, GA. It is the South, after all.
But what a great show. We had a lot of fun with the people around us, and our 18th-row tickets on the side of the stage were awesome. AMAZING FUN!

From Yumi:
MADONNA IS QUEEN! From her Christian Lacroix costume to her tank-plaid skirt-YSL boots, she was RADIANT. Her voice was strong and she moved flawlessly! The dancers were GREAT! Everyone deserved applause! All $300+ worth!

From Jahuie M:
What can you say that hasn't been already said. I saw the show in Atlanta yesterday, and can say, Madonna is the queen. She sang and danced her ass off and presented her songs in a new way. Even though her songs were re-invented, they still were those classics song that we have burnt into our brains.
The comment about grown-ups was hilarious (Thank God I am not one yet). Everyone went crazy for Like A Prayer. You would have never known that was the song she was about to sing. She referred to it has a booty shaken song. So I was expecting anything but that one. Everyone sang along and it was a great moment between her and fans. I love her and hope everyone and anyone should go to this show to see a great artist. The one and only Madonna!

From Catherine:
My friends and I went to see Madonna the first night in Atlanta. This was my first Madonna concert so I was so excited, my biggest dream coming true! She was truly amazing! She takes you on the journey of the Kabbalah in the two hours she is on stage. She shows you how to change and reinvent yourself. If you listen to the words of each song and watch the screen behind her you can follow the process! It is an amazing experience! I think everyone should go to a Madonna concert! She is truly amazing!
And when she was singing Imagine, it was so beautiful everyone in the arena was singing with her. It was so amazing! She is more beautiful in person then she is on TV. She is so amazing. I wish more people would think like she does, maybe then our world would be a better place!
I really liked the part where she was talking about 'when you were a kid you hated listening to Adults, and then you become one' she then said 'well, fuck the adults' LMAO....that was so funny! There is just so much to tell. Everyone should see Madonna! You will be reinvented!

From Jeremy:
I caught Madonna's Re-Invention Tour in Atlanta Saturday night and have renewed respect for Madonna as an entertainer. The previous Drowned World tour (which I also saw in Atlanta) was good but relied more on dark theatricals and provided few opportunities for Madonna to connect with the audience.
Many people also criticized that outing for being too current-material-heavy, but let's face it: 2000's 'Music' and (in particular) 1998's 'Ray of Light' were two of the best-reviewed albums of her career, so why harp on the past?
This time around, Madonna's concert is a much lighter affair that balances new material with old and finds Madge interacting more with the audience and having more fun with her on-stage cohorts. Elaborate, intricate sets have been replaced with elaborate, intricate video displays, and Madonna gets crafty with the arrangements of many of the songs (hence the name of the tour).
Highlights were a hard-rock version of 'Burning Up' (with Madonna on guitar), an edgier 'Material Girl' and a soulful 'Like A Prayer.' I also loved the sampling of The Verve's 'Bittersweet Symphony' on 'Don't Tell Me.' The only disappointment was 'Hanky Panky,' which is one of my favorite Madonna tunes but felt out of place here.
The biggest surprise Saturday night was how good Madonna sounded vocally. She has admitted she's not the best singer, and on her last tour her pitch left much to be desired. Maybe it's her heavy yoga practice, an inner peace she finally radiates or the fact that she's stopped trying so hard and finally let loose...or maybe it's all three.
But now Madonna is in the finest voice of her career, a tremendous accomplishment for someone who was written off as a passing fad when she first broke into the scene more than 20 years ago.

From Daryl and Mark:
The sold-out Madonna show opening night in Atlanta was spectacular. Madonna was wonderful. The music sounded great and so did her voice. Her stage show was mind-blowing. There was so much going on it was hard to take it all in. The set list included old favorites as well as new songs. This is a must see show. She always leaves you wanting more. I hope she puts it out on DVD so we can experience it over and over again.

From James:
I know I'm a little late sending this email, but I just read your article that Madonna claimed Sunday's crowd was better then Saturday's. I didn't attend the second night, but I thought the crowd on Saturday really was lacking in spirit. An entire quarter of the arena was sitting!
However, the show itself was nothing less than utter perfection and beauty! The sound was a bit soft, like they needed to turn up the volume a tad, but otherwise it rocked! My favorite portion was definitely her semi-acoustic set. The mix of 'Bittersweet Symphony' with 'Don't Tell Me' was PERFECT!
The opening number, 'The Beast Within' gave me chills. Simply put, it was amazing!

From Garrett:
Madonna looked and sounded amazing! Nobody's review could have prepared me for what I saw and heard on Saturday night. I used to believe that nothing could compare to Madonna's Blond Ambition Tour, but I was wrong! The energy that night was truly unbelievable. For someone who is self conscience of dancing in front of other people, I had no problem that night. I just couldn't help myself.
During Madonna's performance of 'Nothing Fails', I held up a sign that read 'MADONNA DOES IT BETTER'. She looked down at it and smiled. Later that night when she threw her shirt, I watched as it came towards me in slow motion. I stretched my arm as far as I could and got a few fingers wrapped around it. I kept pulling and pulling, trying to retrieve it from all the people around me.
All of a sudden I felt the shirt starting to rip and then I lost it completely. I looked in my hand and saw that I had a small piece of it, a little larger than the size of a quarter. I was so happy that I at least got something....something worn by Madonna! The guys that got it were nice and allowed me and the people I came with to smell it. It really smelled good even though Madonna probably was sweating when she was wearing it.
I was surprised how many people sang along to 'Nothing Fails' and how hardly anyone knew the song 'Mother & Father'. During 'Mother & Father' I looked around at the people near me and only one person was singing along. In the middle of that song, Madonna sang several verses of 'Intervention'. It was a nice surprise.
Madonna also kept me really entertained during her wardrobe changes. The bag piper and drummers were great. The choreography on the swings were really nice too. Madonna really outdid herself. Everyone around me were on their feet the entire night.
Some other favorite aspects of the show was the moving walkway and the catwalk that lowered over the audience. 'The Beast Within' was creepy, but I loved it. I really enjoyed the remake of 'Deeper and Deeper'.
Also loved how she ends the concert with confetti. She had a lot more than she did on the Drowned World Tour....covering the entire length of the arena!
I see the show again for the 2nd and last time this Wednesday in Ft. Lauderdale. I can't wait!

From Roy:
I attended the July 24th show in Atlanta. Not sure I enjoyed it more than 'Drowned World' which I also saw in Atlanta. They are both so different, its hard to compare them. But, without a doubt, it was a treat to get to hear classics such as 'Vogue', 'Like A Prayer', and 'Into The Groove'.
I read that she said Sunday night's crowd was better than Saturdays. I thought the Saturday show was very enthusiastic and receptive, but did notice a lot of people sitting during the slow songs. Maybe it was just something she said to get the crowd going, I don't know. I must say that I was extremely impressed with the video screens. Not only with the images, but how they worked during the show.
One part of the show that I really enjoyed that I thought I wouldn't was 'Mother & Father/Intervention'. I read a lot of negative responses to the song, but I was very impressed. I loved how the 'Intervention' part sounded mixed in and thought her singing and phrasing during the 'rap' were excellent. The performance and sound coupled with the images of Mary and Jesus gave me goosebumps in the steamy arena.
I did notice something that I haven't read about so far during the 'Bedtime Story' video. It is about the images seen during the video of needles under the eyes. This is clearly a nod toward Italian horror director Dario Argento and his movie 'Opera' where a opera singer is continuously captured by a killer and forced to watch murders of people she knows by having needles placed under her eyes so she cannot close them. Although it was probably suggested by the director, it would be a cool if Madonna was a horror fan deep down, but I doubt it.
Overall, The Re-Invention tour was a amazing display for the senses, and I cannot wait till it airs on TV and eventually on DVD so I can experience it over and over again.

From Linda:
We had a blast at the concert - great performances and a great audience. She is the Queen but I was disappointed to hear she told the Sunday night crowd how much better they were than us on Saturday. My family and I traveled 600 miles (not to mention the money we spent) to see this show and we were thoroughly pleased with it and shouted as loud as we could. Not much else one can do for a Queen.

From Sylvia:
I was very honored to have the chance to see The Madonna live and in person. It was a very humbling experience for me and my sister Carolina. I say humbling as I have been Madonna's #1 fan from the start of her illustrious and captivating career. Being a career girl myself I imitate Madonna at times. By that I mean in her assertive behavior and how she is so committed to following through her tour commitments and appearances.
The entire audience was spell-bound by Madonna's perfomance tonight. From the opening number of 'The Beast Within' which was very mysterious to me I was under the spell of Madonna, The Queen. Madonna commanded the stage like no artist and concert I have ever seen live. Even better than Gloria Estevan and Ricky Martin, who are my favorites after Her Royal Magesty: Madonna. I brought apples for my sister and I to share and as we were munching away Vogue started and we practically choked.
I was hoping for some of the Evita ballads to be performed particularly 'Buenos Aires.' Perhaps on her next tour? My favorites tonight were Deeper and Deeper, Vogue, Into The Groove (my absolute, just absolute favorite Madonna song of all time) and Hanky Panky. God created a miracle in Madonna who has shined her gracious light upon the world for the last twenty years. I love her.

Sunday 25 July - Philips Arena, Atlanta

From Neal:
I was at both Atlanta shows and Sunday nights crowd ROCKED THE HOUSE! Madonna even pointed it out, saying 'you guys are so much better than last nights crowd' before singing Mother & Father.
She also gave props to some people on the front row who were dressed up like her, saying 'You guys get an A for effort'. She blew us away tonight, seemed a bit more playful than last night. No mishaps, and as usual she sounded amazing!

From Julia:
I saw Madonna both nights in Atlanta and she was absolutely incredible! This is now my favorite Madonna tour. Before it was Blond Ambition but I think this show even topped that. I thought the crowds were great both nights. Madonna told us the second night that we were 'much better than last nights crowd.' It didn't seem that way to me but then I'm not watching the crowd from the stage.
Madonna's performance was flawless, her voice was great, and she looked beautiful! When she was dedicating 'Crazy for You' to her fans everyone was screaming so loud that I didn't hear exactly what she said, either night. My daughter said she thought that Madonna said she was dedicating it to all of her fans who have stuck by her through thick and thin for 20 f-ing years.
I was on the floor the first night and I was sitting side stage up kind of high the second night. The second night I could see the stage a lot better because I was looking down at it and her set for this tour is really cool. From where I was sitting you could see her going down or coming up from beneath the stage when the holes in the floor would open. It was cool! I spent a lot more money than I needed to but it was worth it. Madonna was awesome!

From Joe:
This was my 5th show and I haven't written a synopsis, so I hope this gets online. I never thought I would fly to Atlanta to see Madonna, but being in love with someone made me come up with the idea. I was going to take 'R' whom I'm still in love with, but he decided to create a life with someone else. So, I decided to take my sister who seemed more excited than me.
The day of the concert I felt sad because I did wish that I was there with the person I thought I would spend the rest of my life with, unfortunately, we received bad news that was added on top of my already sadness that my Grandfather in Italy had passed away. I thought for a moment that this would ruin the enitre night, but it didn't. We went to the show and the excitement began.
I won't go into super details, but Madonna was flawless, she said the audience was better than Saturday. She didn't talk near as much as the last concert I attended in Toronto, but that didn't matter. During 'Mother and Father' with all the religous imagery, it made me think of my Grandfather and sometimes you just got to let it go. Madonna helped my sister and I with our sorrow that night....and for that....I thank you Madonna!

From Daniel:
Last night in Atlanta was the third show and last show I will see live. The first two shows in Chicago were memory making on their own. I made a special trip from Houston. My spending goes on complete shutdown when Madonna's touring. Both shows were incredible from nosebleed the first night, to mid-priced the second. I saw a whole different perspective each time, so much is happening at once. The crowds were great (the second more than the first perhaps?)
Have seen Madonna every tour, but the Girle Show. They are always perplexing, jarring, touching, and energetic! This tour follows suit. M and her troupes display of talents and abilities far surpass anything you'll see elsewhere. The second night in Chicago she mentioned that her father was there and thought it made her more accessible than the first. She never looked out of place with dancers who are at least half her age. The visuals, the energy, the creativity, it blows ones mind. Is she relevant? Go see the show!
Still awestruck and broke from the Chicago shows, I stumbled onto FOURTH ROW TICKETS to the second show in Atlanta, a cheap air deal and cc with enough space for such a venture. My boyfriend thought I was mental. However, I wasn't passing up the opportunity to go.
M seemed a little irritated with the crowd at first, but the whole house began rocking and never she looked back. M was clearly pleased. She seemed to get more and more into it. The F-word resurfaced during the Crazy For You dedication, and she mentioned the crowd was better then the previous night. This is the most famous, talented, woman of our time! And not to mention being at her pinnacle thus far!
During Nobody Knows Me she looked right at me and I was stunned by how beautiful she is, especially her blue eyes. She's a strong, precise dancer and didn't miss a step. All through the night I thought I had gone to heaven! When M was changing, during Hollywood, the main male dancer for that section was just amazing and beautiful (they all are!). When it ended he was right in front of us about to go down into the stage, and I didn't think he been given proper props, so I yelled out to him. He looked right at me with a sign of appreciation. Will be looking for him on the DVD!
After that it just snowballed. She is a sheer force of nature! It built from gentle worship to mass hysteria each show as only M can! Madonna rocked Atlanta and I saw for the very first time, up close! Never will I get away with the cheaper seats again! Truly magical! BRAVO MADONNA! Hope to have raised enough money to see you again someday.

From Scott:
I was at both the Atlanta shows lower statium seating very close to the stage for Saturday and the floor on Sunday center right 7 rows back. I have been a fan since the begging and always watched tour videos and dreamed of seeing the Queen on stage.
At the Drowned World tour 2001 I was in the very back and this time I could not have gotten much closer. The show was perfection she was amazing beyond belief and never missed a beat. My third time still not enough if I had the chance I would follow the tour around the world.

From Zeuspcola:
Both shows were equally as energetic & entertaining. Madonna was in top form from beginning to end. As I have read every review posted on madonnalicious.com about this tour, I also can agree that this show is in my opinion, the BEST! From the Dancers, to the Band, Donna Delory & Siedah Garrett, the backup singers, & everyone else involved including Madonna herself, have produced a show worth every penny I spent & what they have earned!

From Suzie:
I got back from the Madonna concert yesterday, and all I have to say is 'Wow.' When the first picture from The Beast Within appeared on the screens, I knew that I was in for a ride. Madonna's voice sounded amazing and her dancing was superb. Even though we got stuck in the rain after the concert, it was definately worth it. Highlights were definately Vogue, Don't Tell Me, and Like A Prayer, although it is almost impossible to pick. Long live the queen!

From Amy:
I drove from Dallas to Atlanta for the show Sunday, July 25. I think I've finally recovered! WOW! She is such an amazing performer. Her concerts showcase so much of her abilities as a singer, actress and dancer it's unbelievable.
I wasn't as close to the stage as I would have liked, but still on the floor. The catwalk was the best - I almost wished she had stayed there all evening so I could stare at her up close.
So many highlights - everyone else has done a great job of summarizing....but I loved Papa Don't Preach and Music a little bit more than the rest. There wasn't any song that disappointed, but 'Imagine' was a bit much for me. A wasted opportunity for a Madonna slow song with a message. What about 'This Used To Be My Playground' or 'Rain'?
I even had fun people-watching. There was such an air of excitement throughout that when we begrudgingly had to leave in the monsoon outside, there wasn't a frown to be seen. Everyone was just giggling and laughing about the predicament of getting home dry.
I wish I could have gone to more than one concert, but this was all I could afford.
Best Birthday present ever! 7/25 BABY!

From jedi999:
Hey everyone I just got back from Atlanta and I just had to write in! What can I say about the show, well Saturday night the people in the crowd really did not seem to be really with it and you could tell Madonna was feeling that from the crowd, so she did not go all out!
That all changed Sunday because it seemed to be a lot more true Madonna fans there! I know Madonna could tell the change and you could tell she was getting all the energy she need it and boy did she ever give us one hell of a show on Sunday night! That made the whole 16 hour drive back to Texas worth IT! Now if she would only come to TEXAS!

From Travis:
I saw the 2nd show on Sunday, and yes she said the crowd was better than the first night. And yes 'Bittersweet Symphony' blended into 'Don't Tell Me' is totally awesome. I also agree she seemed irritated with the crowd at first, but as the show went on people seemed to get into the show more and more.
I was in section 116, first row and had an excellent view. I also saw the show in Las Vegas on May 30th. I must say the crowd in Atlanta was SO MUCH BETTER than Las Vegas. It almost makes me wish I had a shirt that said, 'Atlanta does it better!' I was so happy that Atlanta was an awesome crowd, because Madonna really does give her all and it comes through in her flawless performances. No one will ever rival Madonna. I only pray the DVD comes out soon! And I only pray that Madonna comes back to Atlanta on her next tour.
