Monday 13 September - Atlantic Pavilion, Lisbon

From asdb:
The 2-hour-non-stop-show was amazing! Her voice was great and the choreography astonishing. My favourite ones? Vogue and all the Kilt section (Into the Groove and Holiday rocked!)
I still prefer 'DWT' (that I saw in Barcelona) - more theatrical and with better scenarios - but in music selection this one is definitely better! The Queen rules!

From Paulo Pereira:
I just arrived home, voiceless, because of screaming so much in my excellent Madonna show, who took place in my hometown of Lisboa. The show was marvellous; her voice was crystal clear and stronger than I ever heard before. I managed to be at the first row, but since I had to go to the bathroom, when I came back I stayed on the 5th.
Anyway, since I wanted to dance to the songs sung my diva that was OK. She said in Portuguese to us: 'Estão contentes?' (Are you happy?), and then she said it was time she came to Portugal. It was my second time seeing MADONNA live, after seeing her in Barcelona, on the Drowned World Tour, and the ticket was worth the high price (126 euros).
The show was also attended by the Prime-Minister, Pedro Santana Lopes, by the Brazilian actress Claudia Raia, and by the Portuguese 'pimba' (ridiculous) singer, Ruth Marlene. Madonna arrived at 4.30 pm on her Range Rover at high speed, almost not allowing anyone to see her through the front window of the jeep.
Another show and tour to remember forever. And she loved the crowd, at one time she said she was astounded. The high moment of the show was definitely Like A Prayer, when everyone sang, I mean, everyone.

From Paulo Pires:
I am so glad that Madonna decided to end her Re-Invention tour here in Lisbon! What a show!
30 minutes before starting the concert, the crowd was boiling in anticipation. When it began it was a release of emotions. When Madonna appeared it was madness!
Spreading sensuality all over the stage, her voice crystal clear and her dancing near perfection, she was great. She is great!
The group of musicians and dancers exceeded our expectations. A professional show, full of sound and colour.
I loved all the music. The older songs were re-invented with an updated sound which I liked it very much.
From her expressions I think she liked the participation of the crowd and enjoyed once more being on stage.
Today is her last show of the tour. She deserves to rest, but I hope she continues her career for many years. Thank you for all these years of music and continue to re-invent yourself Madonna.

From Juha:
Man! Nothing prepares to take in the shock to see Madonna live, even if you were lucky enough to see her shows before! You never fail to be amazed!
The show reviews have been great, mostly only descriptive, but everybody seem to enjoy themselves more then at Drowned World's show, even though the set-up isn't as elaborate. But she's more loose, having more fun, and it passes on to the fans, everybody going wild at new songs and classics alike!
Madonna even tried portuguese, with 'Obrigado!' (in a perfect accent - 'thanks') and 'Estão contentes?' ('Are you happy?') (of course we were). She said it was about time she came to Portugal, shouted 'What's Up Lisbon!' and said this was a great place to end her tour. We couldn't agree more!

From Guilherme:
The show was flawless, her voiced was great. But the crowd wasn't very warm and I believe she felt that. She didn't interact much with the audience like other reports I've been reading here. And I must say I didn't feel the same energy (from the crowd) than in Paris or London.
She just said a few words in Portuguese and nothing else (Obrigado and some other stuff). To be honest I don't think it looked like she was having much fun, I was in very near the stage (like 4 metres) and several times saw her turning to Stuart Price and rolling her eyes. I suppose it was because of the crowds reaction that I think it could have been much better.
Must confess it was such an emotional time when she performed Like a Prayer that I couldnt help a tear. One of the best moments of the show. Let's just see what happens tonight....

From Joana:
Unforgettable! I will never see another show in my life like that one! That was something to never forget! Madonna should live forever so everyone of every generation could have the privilige to see her. What a concert!
In every song everyone was singing at the top of their lungs! When Madonna was singing Imagine we could see thousands of lighters! She said that she was very happy to have choosen Portugal to finish her tour. She was smiling all the time.
I think words cannot discribe what happen in that Pavilion. It was too freakin amazing! LONG LIVE MADONNA!

From Luis:
I had the chance to be the winner of a Portuguese television contest and me and a friend saw all the show in the dance pit Madonna had in the own stage. We were really close to her and we could see her backstage as she prepared to start the amazing show. We were overwhelmed!
She thanked all her Portuguese fans and said something like 'Finally I came to Portugal!' I guess she was happy and so were we. She didn’t wear a t-shirt saying Portuguese Do It Better, she had the Kaballists one, but who cares. I just sang and danced all night long. Viva Madonna!

From David:
We went to the first concert in Lisbon. We had already been to the concert at Wembley Arena on the 25th of August....but there was something different this time....it has to be the 'latino' element in the crowd... everyone was held captive by her presence, singing along, dancing... she pretty much brought us all to our knees.
She seemed very moved, almost teary-eyed when she sang 'Don't Tell Me', closing her eyes at the end, feeding off the good vibrations from the crowd. Before singing 'Imagine' she said we must not forget history in order to avoid repeating it.
About being in Portugal, she said that this was the first time and that the country was a perfect place to finish her tour. Although she's been singing continuously for the past six months - WOW - her voice was amazing, and she was so much energy.
The Pavilion was crowded, and you could see a lot of the typical hysteria around the place: people sleeping on the floor, fans dressed like her....and one radio station, Radio Capital, played only Madonna songs the whole day. Simply amazing.

From Nuno:
It was great to see Madonna for the first time in Portugal. Last night’s show was incredible (as all the others from the tour). She was around 45 minutes late and the show started right after the public start to diss the Prime Minister who (amongst other members of the government) was attending the show.
Madonna entered the stage and conquered the room. The sound of people cheering was earth-shattering. Everyone was really excited and you could see people from 12 to 80 (this old man was in the middle of the crowd, having fun) and from a lot of nationalities. I found some Greeks, Italians, Chinese, Australians. It was like having the Euro 2004 euphoria but concentrated in one room.
The first really big moment was with Frozen. People were singing so loud that it was almost difficult to hear her voice. American Life rocked, but we had an explosion with Burning Up and Material Girl (one of the best moments of the show). With Like A Prayer the house almost came down. Madonna asked the crowd get up and dance, but as everyone was dancing already we could only get insane and we did. By the end of the song they turned on the lights and Madonna just stood there looking at us quiet and (we could tell) moved.
She threw us the same lines as in other shows and said 'It’s about time I came to Portugal. I did not want to end my tour, but this is a lovely place for me to do it. Thank you'
The show was always very lively with the crowd always dancing and celebrating. But the Pavilion exploded during Frozen, Express Yourself/Burning Up/Material Girl, Like A Prayer, Crazy For You, Into The Groove and Holiday. My personal favourites were Material Girl, Hollywood, Bedtime Story, Lament and Deeper And Deeper. And her voice....it was THE voice for the night. It was a night to remember (Britney, Christina… eat your hats.)

From Filipe:
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! ISTAMOS CONTENTIS! It was about time she came to Portugal! This was the second time I saw her live....and I just want more!
Brilliant show, not as theatrical as the others, but indeed very powerful and musical! She was more beautiful than ever and she was more concentrated in her voice and her music! The opening was simply amazing - I'm telling you....I just had the time of my life!
Vogue, Nobody Knows Me, American Life, Material Girl, Hanky Panky, Imagine, Like A Prayer, Music and Holiday were fabulous performances. Too bad the tour is ending tonight....everytime I see a performance by Madonna, I can't stop thinking to myself nothing will be fun anymore, from now on....
About the first show in Portugal, I just thought the crowd would be more enthusiastic and would enjoy it much more....well, let's see what happens tonight!
Oh....and let me tell you something, Madonna: You can sing, hon....DON'T STOP!

From Rita:
I am so sorry I couldn't write sooner, I was that astonished. Last night I had the greatest moments of my life: it was mind-blowing, really a life-changer.
I have shaped my life after Madonna ever since Like A Prayer (I was 9, now I'm 24) and I had lost hopes on ever seeing her live. But this summer she gave me the best present anyone will ever be able to give me: her presence, flesh and bone, singing, dancing, performing like she never did in her career. I cried the whole time, I couldn't stop thinking I was really just a few inches from her.
'Mother and Father' was awsome, and 'Burning up' did surprise me, it was just so perfect. She danced a lot, she smiled the whole time, and we could see she almost cried for several times, her blue eyes shining with salty water that never fell.
This was unique, I will never forget this night. By the way, I never thought there were so many Portuguese fan-atics like me! Specially gay people, in the VIP area where I was in you couldn't find one single man that wasn't gay! Really amazing, the power of this woman. Some guy had a t-shirt saying: 'God is a woman. Her name is Madonna....and she does it better.' I couldn't agree more!
Madonna is God for me, she's the only artist, the only woman in my life. If you never went to a Madonna show, then you've never been at a SHOW.

From Leonor:
A memorable show! A night to remember! September, 13th, 2004, a day I will never forget, for as long as I live!
First it was the news: MADONNA IS COMING TO PORTUGAL! Then disappointment: because of some people from the Mana church, the concert could be cancelled. The true Madonna Portuguese fans lived moments of sadness but didn't gave up and the struggle started. I can say that we lived some moments of anguish. But then on a nice July summer day the confirmation arrived: MADONNA WAS REALLY COMING TO PORTUGAL!
The Re-Invention tour was going to end here, on our corner of the world. We were going to see a dream come true. The run for the tickets started very quickly. I can say I got the luck of buying the one of the best seats on Pavilhão Atlântico. Finally, my twenty year dream was going to stop and I was going to see Madonna performing live for me, for my friends and for my country. With the ticket on my hand the days seemed to pass slowly. Then came the change. I saw a contest on public TV (RTP!) and the contest was called: COME DANCE WITH MADONNA ON STAGE! THAT WAS MORE THAN I COULD ASK FOR. But why not?
I tried and participated. The day before the show (for which I had my ticket already) I got a phone call from the TV: 'Miss Leonor? Yes - I said; It's from RTP!' I guessed in that moment that the dream had really come true and I couldn't believe it. The voice on the other side of the line said: 'You are one of the ten who will dance with Madonna!' I had won a ticket fot the Dance Pit and I was so happy, I couldn't believe it, but it was true. I had won and to go with me I chose my friend Luís, Madonna biggest fan, at least among my friends. We were so happy!
And the happiness was mixed up with nervous, anxiety and lots of joy. We entered the Pavilhão looking and looking and observing everything carefully. I bought my t-shirt (the official of the tour) before the show and Luís had his own from the 'Drowned Tour'. Then we waited a long hour and a a half for one and suddenly the lights went down and the show began. What can i say about it? UNIQUE! MARVELLOUS! WONDERFULL! MADONNA IS THE BEST! A great show, with great songs, great sets. I just loved it! We were amazed with everything.
There are no words to express what we felt in that place while watching the show. It was amazing and very difficult to describe. But we loved every part, song and every minute of the show. It was a feeling that can't be explained, it can only be felt. Being so close to Madonna was an experience we will never forget. Madonna, come and visit us soon again! We deserve it. As you said: It was about time you'd come here. We'll see you on the DVD and on the next tour!

From Márcia:
It was a brilliant show, my second one from the lady. I saw the first show from the DWT in Barcelona but now I'm very happy to be in my own country at the end of this brilliant tour.
It was an amazing night and the crowd went nuts, sang along with Madonna and screamed every time she spoke in Portuguese!
I sang my heart out to all the songs specially Don't Tell Me, Material Girl, Frozen, the much improved Deeper and Deeper, Music, Holiday and of course Burning Up, one of my favourite oldies, and I went mad with the videos, the perfomances, the dancers, and specially the bagpipe player and of course the marvellous Queen Of Pop, and now, Queen of our Portuguese hearts, Madonna!
I guess everyone in that Pavilion will be forever greatful to a certain lucky star! All I hope is that Madonna liked both shows and the Portuguese crowd so we won't have to wait long for her to return to Portugal! Portugal will always welcome Madonna! Viva Madonna!' Saudade....

Tuesday 14 September - Atlantic Pavilion, Lisbon

From Bruno:
I went last night to the Atlantic Pavilion to see her final Re-Invention World Tour performance and, boy, was it great!
I went to Wembley Arena on the 22nd of August because I had bought tickets for this London show even before there was any rumor about her coming to Portugal. Since I already had the tickets, I took a plane and went there for the show. Without exaggerating, I can say the difference between Wembley and the Atlantic Pavilion in what concerns to crowd support was very much the same that separates a cemetery from a circus.
Some friends of mine said they could hear our screams inside the Orient Station, one mile ahead of the Pavilion. Furthermore, everybody sang her songs so loud that sometimes I could not even hear her voice. She stopped singing a lot of times just to hear us sing, and she made a whole lot of amazement expressions like she didn’t believe it.
She was absolute perfection and, although I have read that she had cried other times during her show, this particular time we could see she was really brought down to tears during her 'Don’t Tell Me' performance due to the overall massive cheering and support she was getting from the crowd. In fact, she had to stop singing for a while because she was sobbing quite heavily.
I guess she had a tremendously good time and she kept on repeating 'Thank you very much!' throughout the show, mainly after realizing that thousands of people could sing along most of the songs from her 'American Life' album, unlike what happened in London where most people bothered to open their mouths only to sing her classic hits.
Overall, it was a flawless show and to my humble (but somewhat potentially biased, I must confess) opinion, she could not have picked a better place to record a DVD. According to what I have been reading on this site, Portugal gave her the best crowd ever. This was our way to say 'Thank you for coming, Madonna!'

From Guilherme:
I really have to tell you about the last concert. It was just perfect! The crowd was great, much better than on the 13th.
She was in such a great mood, her voice perfect! It was such an emotional experience....I think she broke down in tears in some points of the show. She said something like: 'I look around and see so much love and joy in your eyes. I look at the people that work with me I don't want tonight to end. Thank you Portugal'.
Needless to say there were teary eyes all over the place. It was the best concert ever! I'm so happy I was there!

From Richar:
Oh my God! I never could think that I'd see Madonna again and two days running!
She was fantastic and the audience was incredible overcoat the second day! In our heart we was feeling the final moment of the tour and I couldn't keep back my tears when Madonna started to cry in the beginning of Crazy For You. In this moment, all the people started to scream so loud that this was the unique moment that all security round back their heads to see what was happening on the stage, because the audience was going crazy.
And in the end....the concert (and THE RE-INVENTION WORLD TOUR) was a big party!
